I'm zonin' in them rosé bottles foamin'
Jan. 13th, 2008 07:42 pmYeah baby, we're firmly in the 08 now which means it's the return of VIDEO CLUB.
This first song is the current US No 1, 'Low' by Flo Rida and T-Pain. It's a fairly addictive club banger, and it makes me very sad that this sort of thing doesn't fit into the British chart landscape any more. APPLE BOTTOM JEANS! BOOTS WITH THE FUR! It's just so amazing to dance and get drunk to.
Flo Rida actually first came to my attention a few months ago when I first heard 'Birthday', which is probably even better. "I don't want no cake on my birthday, I want my cake E'ERRRY DAY!" Love those weird...what are they? wind chimes? floating around in the background.
Next is the return of the ever-charming Nelly. 'Ride Wit Me' still stands as a pinnacle of human achievement - 'Wadsyaname' is a pretty good comeback! Lovely flowing piano line, lyrics which are chivalrous one minute and lecherous the next, a vague hint of wistfulness about the whole transience of the thing, it all winds up breezy and fun.

Date: 2008-01-14 03:20 am (UTC)The Nelly, on the other hand, is weak IMO. A bit of Nelly-by-the-book: whereas "Low" you would proabably actually try singing to someone to show how good it was, "Wadsyaname" you would probably just describe. Just lacks that spark somehow, and as a result the lyrics sound contrived rather than touching (e.g. "Dilemma," which is still the high water mark both both Nelly and Miss Kelly for me)
