The official top 20 biggest-selling singles of 2007 in the UK:

1. Leona Lewis - Bleeding Love
2. Rihanna ft. Jay-Z - Umbrella
3. Mika - Grace Kelly
4. Leon Jackson - When You Believe
5. Take That - Rule The World
6. Sugababes - About You Now
7. Timbaland ft. Keri Hilson & DOE - The Way I Are
8. The Proclaimers ft. Brian Potter & Andy Pipkin - (I'm Gonna Be) 500 Miles
9. Mark Ronson ft. Amy Winehouse - Valerie
10. Kaiser Chiefs - Ruby
11. The Fray - How To Save A Life
12. Beyonce & Shakira - Beautiful Liar
13. Gwen Stefani ft. Akon - The Sweet Escape
14. Plain White T's - Hey There Delilah
15. Sean Kingston - Beautiful Girls
16. Timbaland ft. One Republic - Apologize
17. Kate Nash - Foundations
18. Take That - Shine
19. Kanye West - Stronger
20. Avril Lavigne - Girlfriend

The only real conlusion I've drawn is just how many of these I find aren't great but require far too much effort to really hate. In a 'which of these are any downright horrible at all' poll I could only tick 3 or 4, if that, but otoh there's only 3 or 4 here I think are really good. So many songs seem to have qualities I both like and despise whether it's 'Ruby' or 'Foundations' or 'Bleeding Love' or 'Beautiful Girls', which at least bodes well for freakytigger's proposed blog on 'songs you almost like but have some problem with' perhaps.

'With Every Heartbeat' was 24th btw, one place below 'Starz In Their Eyez' bah

After seeing a group of raucous primary school kids doing Ruby at karaoke, I just can't hate the song anymore, in fact now I think I really like it! So... erm! In conclusion!

I actually think "Ruby" is quite a fun song and the Kaisers themselves are the only really bad thing about it. "Ruby-Ruby-Ruby-Ruby-Ruby," I can totally hear primary school kids doing a great job of it.

Is anyone else shocked that Leona beat Umbrella, which in the grand scheme of things, looks to be one of the top singles of the decade, no?

Leon and the charity song aside, I think the Top 10 are all pretty great singles.'Ruby' would definitely be my least favourite but it's big, dumb and catchy as hell.

It's still fun to sing/shout "RUB-by RUB-by RUB-by RUB-by" over the top of it whenever it comes on the radio, that's for sure. ;)

Billboard has multiple EOY charts and I'm not sure which is the closest equivalent to the UK best-sellers list, but here's the "Pop 100 Songs" chart:

Pop 100 includes sales and airplay on top 40 stations. Hot 100 includes sales and airplay on all radio stations.

I am absolutely baffled by Delilah. I mean, the bafflement hasn't just hit me now, but I am just even more amazed/horrified.

I was watching this countdown on Hits!TV last night, and was very pleased with the amount of songs I really liked. The only ones in the top 25 I really dislike are Just Jack and the Proclaimers.

Also: Leona sold more in 6 weeks than Rihanna and Mika's yearly sales put together. I still find this boggling - I mean, the song's really good, but not THAT good!

Sighted in transit to first NYE party, going through your hood as I remember: girlz at back of bus singing along to N-Dubz and Leona Lewis.

WTF
