A few videos for yr sunday
Dec. 16th, 2007 01:32 pmHave we talked about Brick & Lace yet? I don't know how this one's doing in the UK, but it's BLOWING UP (with good reason!) up here in the frozen north. Nothing like a belated summer jam to make the arrival of winter a little less bleak!
N-Dubz came up in the Year in Pop poll about a month back; this is an older offering of theirs, from last year, and absolutely hooktastic. (I like it rather better without the visuals, mind, which makes it a good thing I first heard it over webcast!)
--
And in closing, confession time: I've been tempted to start some sort of Guide to Finnish Pop post series over here almost since I joined (read: way back in the comm's diaper days), but have consistently been too much of a wuss/too lazy. I'm finally getting to the point where I may actually get off my ass about it, though, so here's a taster:
Say hello to Ninja Sarasalo, model-turned-popstar. She doesn't sing all that well, and her album is pretty poor, but it's got a few real gems on it -- particularly in cases where the production makes her weaknesses work in her favour. Her debut single was one of those; it also had a video that ended up nominated for the official Finnish music video awards going for it.
More of this sort of thing wanted, Y/N?
[Edit: and I know what day of the week it is honestly! Appearances in spite.]

Y!
Date: 2007-12-16 12:05 pm (UTC)N Dubz - oh yes, these were those youngsters hanging round a variety of grim locations weren't they? Great chorus - def more memorable than the one that charted. Tick vg!
Not totally convinced about Ninja - not just her vocal but the backing seems a little thin? Perhaps this is a subtle comment on the shallowness of the fashion world! But YES PLS to more Finnish pop, all contributions gratefully received!

The chorus on the N-Dubz is totally awesome. So catchy! I just really don't need to see how skinny and awkward the kid singing it is, hahaha.
Fashion is a bit of a grower -- it took me a while to warm to it all the way, though I did like it from the first time I heard it. I may have to post one of the album tracks as well once I start the proper posts, there's one on there that really knows how to work her vocal limitations.

Date: 2007-12-16 01:34 pm (UTC)Brick & Lace are amazing! I miss the days when random dancehall-lite was a permanent fixture in the top 10. Love the horns, love the crunky synths in the second verse. Makes me v happy. I already had a song called 'Never Never' by these two in much the same vein, but this is even better. They appear to be Akon proteges, of all things.
so in conclusion: YYYYYY to more like this!
