The Bug is one of those people who almost always make me go WOAH whenever I hear new stuff by him. He makes dubstep/dancehall/grimy stuffz which doesn't really slot into any of those categories, and he often works with Warrior Queen who is a rather astoundingly talented MC on the London garage scene and who really needs to drop an album of her own. I first saw her at a house party a few years back and she blew me away. Anyway here is their new single, 'Poison Dart', which is really doomy but also very danceable.

Something which excites me even more than The Bug's own music is his Ladybug side project, in which he specifically works with female MCs and singers including Nicolette who used to hang round Massive Attack, Ari Up and my girl No Lay.

The ladybug thing sounds a good idea because I've often found The Bug's own stuff rather drearily macho - I always got the feeling he was one of those dudes who only gets off on dance music when it gets dark and paranoid. The track you've linked here isn't bad though!

Haha the reason I like The Bug is b/c he isn't as drearily macho as most of the dudes in the dubstep scene! Which yes says more about dubstep than anything else. It's Warrior Queen I love though.

well, he's basically a noise dude who's found the noise in dancehall (and dancehall-related "nuum"-stuff). i'm not too keen on his recorded material, but otoh if you get a chance go watch him DJ, do it - i can't recommend it highly enough! i'm no noise dude by any means and i wasn't particularly hopeful when i went to see him DJ earlier this year, but he won me over immediately. the way he cranks up the bass and everything + smoke and strobelight on the floor... such a sweet sensory assault/overload to get lost in, i couldn't stop dancing! ok, not 100% true, i had to leave the mainroom every once in a while coz the strobelight was hurting my eyes.. but still, i had a blast and i'd happily endure it all over again.
