My latest Pitchfork column is a big old review of the Britney album, in all but name. Thanks to the people reading this whose ideas I've drawn on!

Woo!

There is a Lil' Kim remix of 'Gimme More' which begins "It's Britney, bitch...AND LIL' KIM, HO!!!!" That sentence gives me such an immense amount of satisfaction. AND LIL' KIM, HO!!!!!

re GN(IHAP) it does the 'turning to the darkside' thing very well particularly because it doesn't throw up the 'i'm a bad girl/superfreak' cliche without demonstarting it convincingly in the music too (unlike that Lisa Maffia track which is great too but the 'bad girl' sentiment is far less potent there and she might as well be saying something else entirely). there's a great elegance about the whole thing at the same time. it's like a ghost train burlesque show without the tack, and instead of there being skeletons it's all just people in Eyes Wide Shut costumes, at it. ha ha.

Endless fun making up a video in your head to go with it yes...

That Laura Palmer metaphor is kind of perfect, it neatly encapsulates something I've been trying and failing to articulate about the album for some time.

I have to say, Tom, this is some of the best kind of music writing - I'm pulling out the iPod now to listen again...
