OK clear this up for me - is there a difference between bassline house and niche or are they two words to describe the same thing, like grime and eski in the old days?

Think I like the underwater bass and pizzicato strings far more than the slightly weedy vocal, would love a dub version of this.

What does eski mean? (Other than that it means "grime," that is).

Dude this that thing I saw on Hits!TV that I couldn't remember what it was! I was wrong about the Female Allstars obv...

Why are people so bad at naming these subgenres? 'bassline' and '4x4' tell us nothing about what distinguishes it from other offshoots of Garage. Niche is really bizarre. The basslines aren't particularly powerful although they do have a memorable characteristic in spite of this I guess. On that basis I am going to call this music THRIBBLE, until I think of something more suitable tomorrow.

I do kinda like this tune but it's still not as good as Jaimeson's 'True', and the video is just rubbish!

Go to X5 Dubs myspace http://www.myspace.com/x5dubs and listen to Nicole's Groove which I mentioned before and prefer to Heartbroken altho it somehow feels darker and less radio friendly.

Is anyone here friends with someone who has actually invented a genre name that has taken hold in the world? (The closest I know of is Chuck Eddy, who used the term "nerf metal" for Poison and White Lion and the like, and a few other people began using it too, but it didn't make it into common usage.)

Closest I get is Metal Mike Saunders' email list.

"Generic" will be the next "Speed Garage"

[personal profile] koganbot 2007-11-04 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
But actually I really like "Niche" as the name of a genre, just as I like "Scene" as the name of a style. In fact, there ought to be a genre called "Genre."

Have long wished that someone would create a style of music called "amphetamine driveway."

Surely niche is no more stupid than garage?

[identity profile] chezghost.livejournal.com 2007-11-07 10:54 am (UTC)(link)
Garage as 'derived from House' makes sense tho! I always thought of it that way at least. Garage Rock makes sense too really.

Niche just seems to have come out of nowhere and seems far too vague or generic - it could mean anything.

[identity profile] freakytigger.livejournal.com 2007-11-07 11:00 am (UTC)(link)
It comes from paradise garage though doesn't it - named after a club just like Niche!

[identity profile] chezghost.livejournal.com 2007-11-07 11:18 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry I totally missed that Niche was the club name.

I probably would've said Garage was stupid at the time were it not for the 'house and garage' connection being so agreeable and fitting in itself.

Very surreal moment seeing fluxblog post this this week, when [livejournal.com profile] jauntyalan (was it you alan?) first boosted this months ago. Objective proof, if you will, that one is way ahead of the curve, at least on this one small point. (Fact, albeit unprovable - I was the first person to scrobble Lily Allen on last.fm!)

video meme

Does anyone else find this still-recurring moment in videos where the artist meets the label head and gets offered a contract to be sort of weird at the current point in history?
