I can only remember one of these Roxette songs (and it's the one I actively dislike). No ticks then.

yeah, I came back to that this morning. It was bad enough when you only had those "this person is your mutual friend" pop ups. Now it's bubble central round here!

I knew that Roxette had kept going a good while and had lots of hits but I didnt realise that I knew NONE OF THEM after the first four or so.

The other thing I do know about Roxette is that they were a favourite band of THE WAR AGAINST SILENCE, aka legendary pop crit intellectual Glenn McDonald who we used to tangle with occasionally back in the day. (His other favourite bands were Big Country, Juliana Hatfield and Marillion!)

There was an absolutely fucking stonking remix of it a few years ago that involved Roxette themselves. It was AMAZING.

Yes and The Alarm!

There has never been a column remotely like TWAS anywhere ever.

He reviewed ALL TORI'S CD SINGLES INDIVIDUALLY!

And his favourite album ever is the Tori album which EVERYONE IN THE WORLD agrees was the start of her going shit and here is the review (http://www.furia.com/page.cgi?type=twas&id=twas0408#entry1) - Tim F and I were talking about it the other day in tones of UNCOMPREHENDING AWE

Canonical List of Greatest TWAS Moments

- Reviewing 14 different copies of Marillion by Kayleigh
- Getting member of the Alarm to write special track for box set
- TWAS discovers Motown!!!
- No doubt some crazy Tori stuff.

He has a baby now! Aww.

OMG

What if you and I are meant for each other? Some two people must be, so why not us? You're daunting, but I want to be daunted a little. (http://www.furia.com/page.cgi?type=twas&id=twas0192)

We've all thought it about a pop star, haven't we...

He returned to it in later columns and the proposal got a bit more metaphorical I think! I feel a bit bad now cos the bits I remember were the "OMG has he actually gone mad" bits and what made the site great was the mix of that fearlessness with self-indulgence, self-perception, life-writing, proper perceptive music writing, intensity etc etc. EVERY WEEK!

He turns up now and then to do those great stats lists for Pazz and Jop. He's a genuine godfather of music blogging (though I hardly ever agreed with him) and it's a shame the site's not more widely remembered.

yes i had a great FITE with him on ilm abt POP which i think helped drive him off ilm :(

haha the only bit i know remember was a TREMENDOUS GREAT MULTI-PARA POST which i responded to with a single monosyllabic word picked out of said post in quotemarks <--- godfather of zing culture :( :( :(

Yeah that Tori stuff is so TWAS! The thing about it was that ALL his columns were like that, the degree to which he amped up the length and intensity for the "best album ever" is really VERY SMALL!

ALL 23 versions of kayleigh!!

Roxette are AMAZING! I have done karaoke to 'It Must Have Been Love' which is just HEART-RENDING - afterwards Sophie and I wandered the streets of Shoreditch aimlessly, still singing the chorus over and over again...

Not enough love for 'Sleeping In My Car', which features my favourite euphemistic use of the word "bless" ever (and pre-dates the same usage in hip hop?):

Sleeping in my car, I will undress you
Sleeping in my car, certainly bless you

Roxette were oddly obsessed with cars and driving.

Yes Sleeping In My Car is brilliant and has been in my head since it was played at the Pamflet party last week.

How Do You Do? needs more ticks as well. They were brilliant at writing irony free driving songs.

I heart Roxette.

Maybe the person sneezes when they get undressed because they catch a cold.

I really ought to own Roxette's Greatest Hits. I found it very hard to pick just 6 of these. I used to love 'Sleeping In My Car'. And 'Listen To Your Heart' is one of my all-time favourite tunes.

Must seek out cheap Roxette Best of in lunchtime!
