Girls Aloud - Call The Shots
Oct. 18th, 2007 10:19 am+ Nicola has the best bit all to herself
+ The stars go all whooshy after her big build-up which looks kinda cool
+ The song is still uber-awesome and I want to go and listen to it again right now pls.
- Cheryl and Sarah's fringes have been trimmed by their MUMS with a mixing bowl.
- No dancing. I know the lasses aren't exactly Queens of Choreography but a mid-paced song like this would really suit their slow-motion arm-waving etc.
- Kimberley looks well gormless when she's doing her makeup in the mirror.
- They spent all their budget on 'Sexy! No No No' so we're back to standing around in some sand and pouting.

which I think provides the required oomph quite well

+ The whooshy stars are nice, if a little cheesy.
- Nadine's hair looks terrible.
- It's essentially a nice video in search of a concept. Not much happens, does it?
Didn't they shoot this in LA? I'm guessing that's what swallowed the budget.

Date: 2007-10-18 06:15 pm (UTC)anyway yeah - boring video, GA are really not a great videos act. I can only remember two good videos, or rather two boring videos with great BITS: the outfits in 'Biology' and that moment in 'No Good Advice' when they're all static, posed, next to the car, during the surf guitar bit.
When I heard the demo of 'Call The Shots' I said it was nice but needed extra 'Early Winter'-esque oomph at the end, it seemed to lack that big ballad OTT climax. It still lacks this but they seem to have improved the rest of it so I'm still pleased, generally!
Hey!
Date: 2007-10-18 10:02 am (UTC)(The comment being: "I liked it! Presses my big ballad buttons, I kept expecting it to get big and it restrained itself until right towards the end. Would have probably got a win in an orgafun event.
I'm guessing now it was written by someone famous and unexpected.")
Still a bit underwhelmed by this GA but it's growing on me.

Date: 2007-10-18 09:01 pm (UTC)I like this video quite a lot! It draws out the song's inherent Depeche Modishness. It is certainly more expressive than Antonioni's previous music video, despite that previous one's featuring Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck in a rare appearance together.

Date: 2007-10-19 09:06 am (UTC)She also is the 'voice' of Teenage Dirtbag. And is very
indieshy in interviews.Nicola is currently vying for my top Aloud, along with Cheryl (who has lost points recently for being boring).

Date: 2007-10-19 03:50 pm (UTC)Cheryl = geordie with an attitude, married a footballer (ie the new Posh Spice). Got in brawl with a toilet attendant (all racial motivation on Chazza's part was cleared), earned herself a 'chav' tag & community service. Will not take any crap from anyone.
Nicola = the Indie Aloud, being ginger and shy and walked all over by the other girls. Her and Kimberley were last minute replacements in the band (sort of - the Pop Idol judges initially didn't put them through, but 2 contestants got DQed and they got the nod) so originally had a minor inferiority complex. Nicola has had two boyfriends in the last 6 years and both were called Carl.
Sarah = blonde tabloid queen who likes going out on the lash rather a lot.
Nadine = Norn Irish, goes out with some dude off Desperate Housewives, lives in LA, barely in the band tbh.
