This week's group is the Seventies - download the tracks as a 24Mb zipfile here , or go and hear them streamed on Freaky Trigger: http://freakytrigger.co.uk/ft/2007/10/pop-open-week-11/

[Poll #1069545]

Thanks to the four contestants - anatol_merklich, lisa_go_blind, mackromackro, and mcatzilut.

Because this group went up a bit late its running time will be slightly truncated. I'll do the reveals and reviews tomorrow afternoon, we'll close the voting and do the results on Tuesday morning just before the Eighties group goes up.

(I have all the tracks from the 80s and 90s groups, I need Lex's and W3ft's from the 00s.)

These all sound pretty great on first ear glance.

I recognised track 3 after a minute but don't remember the artist or title - I don't think I can vote for it then, but it would probably be my favourite of the four.

I was expecting to know at least one of these, but no.

And yes, I like all of 'em. Track 4 is nuts!

It probably speaks volumes of my youthful (read: late-90s) pre-poptimistic follies that I'm voting for tracks 2 and 3, eh? (They're like slipping into comfy old sweaters! It's really quite unfair to the other tracks, is what it is.)

Another really good week. Round 2 keeps on bringing the awesome!

Track one is EXACTLY what I was hoping for from this group. It's gorgeous. 70s soul always sounds so cool, and this is a brilliant example, the lush strings, her voice, everything about is great.

The other three are ace too, but just can't complete with that for me.

Track 2 hit me gutwise, Track 4 hit me brainwise. The other two were also excellent...these have been great so far!

Track 4 - a bit too long
Track 1 was my "comfortable sweater" song - was sure I knew it but apparently don't
Track 3 seemed fine at the time, but I already can't remember what it was like
Track 2 - not really my thing but striking enough to get a vote here

Track 1: Surprised I didn't know it, and thought it was going to be Love TKO from the intro. Tops.
Track 2: One of those songs I sort of know and sort of don't – I know that there was a song with this title and I quarter-recognised it. Wouldn't have voted for it anyway – just too far on the tinny side of pop-punk I think.
Track 3: I take it this is an actual 70s track? I think if I heard it out of this context, I would have assumed it was a later pastiche – with a couple of clear candidates.
Track 4: There's an unbreakable no prog policy in my house.

I'm sure everyone has gone home now, but I'm actually shocked that I'm the only one so far who knows Track 2. Though maybe there's someone else who knows it but hasn't submitted his vote yet, just as I haven't. I'm in a dead heat for the three remaining, which I won't write about until Tom posts the reveals because everyone's gone home, but Track 4 not only surmounts its pennywhistle beginning (nothing in the world quite fills me with anguished foreboding like the sound of pennywhistles at the start of a track), it makes me forget that they were even there.

I only like Track 1, but I absolutely LOVE that. I want to like Track 4 but I just can't take it seriously - I like my weirdness to be unsettling and my silliness to be straightforward, this is weird/silly and I am not down with it. Didn't like Track 2 at all, Track 3 didn't make much of an impact.
