BIG TICKY - I really like this, it uses the slight thin-ness in her voice to its advantage (unlike a lot of her 00s material).

not keen on this - it's Chung King lite, not even Goldfrapp lite

haha my first thought was: this totally PWNs those feeble Goldfrapp efforts to mine this territory

10/10 VG from me

the real goldfrapp-pwning artist right now is Roisin Murphy

"right now"? - roisin always pwns alison

This is alright, but it's all hook and no song. And it's EXACTLY the same as the original - all Kylie has done is sing over the top. She hasn't even re-done the backing vocals!!

I like the way you assume everyone reading will know there's an original! I certainly didn't. Anyway given that the people making the original (Kish Mauve) are also producing Kylie's version this isn't that surprising.

Well when you know there IS an original and it's exactly the same, it makes it even more disappointing. Over a year of work announced with a song which Kylie must have spent at least, oooh, five minutes on?

Surely all Kylie ever does on her hits is "sing over them" though! I mean I doubt she took much longer on Cant Get You than on this - hear the song, learn the song, sing it. It's just the song in that case was a demo, rather than one which might as well have been for all the exposure it had.

From: [identity profile] datura800.livejournal.com
Well no, I don't think Kylie just 'sings over them' all the time. But in any event the point with 'CGYOOMH' is that no one had recorded it before and we heard it for the first time with Kylie. The Kish Mauve version of '2 Hearts' was actually released and has been all over the internet for weeks. And this is Kylie's big COMEBACK! I just cannot believe that she's done a lazy cover for it when anyone who's heard the leaked tracks knows there are MUCH better ones which haven't even made the album.

share with the class, please!

i *really* hate when people say "anyone who's heard the tracks that didn't make the album knows..." when the album hasn't even been released yet, let alone the unreleased demos

But two of the 'demos' are on the album, and by all accounts sound almost exactly the same. And the leaked songs are easy to get hold of, if you so choose.

I thought the 'original' was a demo, i.e. it was always known that it would eventually turn into a Kylie record, so to speak.

No, it was released as part of an E.P.

Eh. It's okay, I guess. I like the chorus, but the verses are weak. And it just feels too Goldfrapp for my liking, both the song and the video. And recent Goldfrapp at that, not good Goldfrapp.

Maybe it would've helped if I hadn't listened to this right after the new Girls Aloud single, which is much much better.

Very song-y. Feels like a Sophie Ellis-Bextor or Rachel Stevens song in fact, i.e. it's got a lot less bite than most GA tracks, but I'm sure the melody will grow on me.

It sounds more Garbage-y than Goldfrapp-y to me, honestly! The chorus in particular; really easy to imagine Shirley Manson singing it.

I quite like it, personally. Has this understated, insidious sort of catchiness going for it.

God yes, this is exactly what Shirley Manson should have on her solo album. I prefer the Kish Mauve version to Kylie's by a long way.

That said, I think it is a very cool video.

JESUS CHRIST WHY IS KYLIE MINOGUE OF ALL PEOPLE SINGING A FUCKING INDIE FUCKING ROCK SONG WITH A FUCKING LUMPEN INDIE FUCKING 'BEAT' AND TERRIBLE CHUGGING GUITARS

DELETE POP MUSIC

(I think it's terrible)

(aaargh I need to listen to 'Slow' to cheer myself up now and then NOT THINK OF THIS THING AGAIN)

(I like her look in the video though)

Now you mention it it is a bit PJ Harvey.

in fact

I think it is very Ark (and not just because of the video).

by the end, I guess I'd say I liked it - we'll see if/how much it grows on me, although that's already a result. the whole "updated 50s Rock and Roll" vibe TOTALLY doesn't work for me as a general rule

I have never said this before, but

ALEX IS ABSOLUTELY CORRECT.

This will be my Exhibit A in the case of 'Why The Scissor Sisters Have Ruined Pop Music'.

This doesn't sound like a Kylie song. I don't think this will do that well in the charts.

By the way, is she a bit "Marilyn Monroe" in the video?

From: [identity profile] freakytigger.livejournal.com
I think Kylie could do an Einsturzende Neubaten covers EP right now and it would do well in the charts - massive goodwill, brave Kylie etc etc.

Also here is why this is the first single, come on ppl, "2 Hearts", gets released, does well, Kylie is in Dr Who Xmo special a month after, watched by 10 million, Dr Who has 2 hearts, single plays in emo bit of programme, loads of people download it, bish bosh extra money.

did you ever think you'd live to see the day when this would be a meaningful sentence, not just a pipedream :)
