Here's my question about covers like this (I actually kind of liked this one): why can't any of these people write a "Hot in Herre" of their own?? How come the only way to do a dumbass novelty is to appropriate it from a source that wasn't ashamed of itself for doing it in the first place?

I was listening to Jewel's 0304 the other day, and I kind of respect her more in a general sorta way for making it -- she actually sat down and wrote herself some pop songs, rather than simply doing the Jewel version of "I'm a Slave 4 U" or something -- sometimes it takes guts to "sell out"! (And re: Jewel specifically, I'll bet 0304 sold pretty poorly compared to her other albums.)
