There was a time, a couple of years ago, when a new GA and a new Sugababes single within a week or two of one another would have caused mass fizzing and rejoicement among the "online pop community". No longer it seems - "Sexy No No No" got a warm but not really thrilled reaction and "About You Now" seems to have snuck out without much trace.

This is maybe grist to

thenipper's theory (sassy early-mid 00s pop has been superseded by Allen/Nash/Harris indiefied pop (Amy W. now seems a difft. k of f)) but what ARE you getting excited about at the moment? What are you looking forward to, o Poptimists?

Roisin's Overpowered is grebt squelchy Daft Punk 'Bing Bong Bung' dance-pop - I heart the video too (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VlFjf1pWk2c).

The whole album will be a pretty squelchy afrfair all round by the sound of things - the 2 b-sides to Overpowered (Foolish & Sweet Nothings) & Modern Timings (which is a free download from her website) are all great, if not as good as Overpowered. New single Let Me Know is great too. And I love her look for the new album - great bonkers outfits in everyday environments for all the single sleeves and the videos. This is the album I've been most excited about all year.

The album is basically BANGING - synthy spacey discoey dance-pop. Gosh that is a rub description but it is the best I can do right now - it kind of reminds me of Madonna's Confessions (and indeed the last Moloko album, and the Rachel Stevens album) in that she has decided on a very definite, distinct sound and expanded on it really wonderfully over the course of an album. It's sparse but very very danceable, schaffelly in places, sometimes Goldfrappy (but better obv), very romantic and glamorous...
