Fickle Jades
Sep. 24th, 2007 01:31 pmThere was a time, a couple of years ago, when a new GA and a new Sugababes single within a week or two of one another would have caused mass fizzing and rejoicement among the "online pop community". No longer it seems - "Sexy No No No" got a warm but not really thrilled reaction and "About You Now" seems to have snuck out without much trace.
This is maybe grist to
thenipper's theory (sassy early-mid 00s pop has been superseded by Allen/Nash/Harris indiefied pop (Amy W. now seems a difft. k of f)) but what ARE you getting excited about at the moment? What are you looking forward to, o Poptimists?
(&, as importantly, what do you see other people getting excited about?)

"other people" seems more fragmented than ever to me now - maybe I'm romanticising the days of old-ILX when everyone would rally round Missy or Basement Jaxx or early Sugababes or Destiny's Child, but there really is nothing approaching that nowadays. ILX is common-or-garden (US) indie these days. Poptimists itself...there's such a LACK of consensus here, I actually have no idea what the favoured aesthetic is!
Re: Good Ideas and Positive Trends In Pop aka Stuff I Like
Date: 2007-09-24 02:26 pm (UTC)- Old school Popjustice pop
- Post-confessional teenpop and its fallout
- Boshing that'll-do WTF vulgarity
- R&B diaspora
- Songwriting-first Scando craftsmanship
- Well-heeled Mumpop
- Emo is the new pop pop
- Camera Obscura tweepop
Now while it wd be possible to name a poptimist who is into each of these and a poptimist who dislikes all of these it would not be possible to name one who's into ONLY one of them (some are clearly related).
