Year In Pop, Week 34

Hi dere pop-tickers (do you see?!) I am filling in for [livejournal.com profile] freakytigger on these polls whilst he is off on his summer jaunts. Hopefully, I will not rubbish it up too badly but if any of these have blatantly been in the polls before then tell me. The Official Charts Company haven't pulled themselves together enough to update yet so I had to do this by comparing last week and this week's chart off the BBC, ie: I hope I got this wrong somewhere because otherwise this is the worst week for singles in the history of the known universe. :(

[Poll #1045844]

Whoa whoa, is this Elvis business going to go on for much longer? How many non-number ones did he ever have? This makes three whole Elvis singles in the top 40. Surely this is NOT RIGHT.

I like the Maxïmo Park, although to be honest I kind of talked myself into it - they have done (could do?) way better

I didn't think Kaiser Chiefs were going to release a third single from this album, after having barely made the top 20 with Everything Is blah blah, and this will have flopped awesomely by next week as did the last one

Haven't heard the Kano/CD, so I'm off to youtube that

MONTHS! jesus.

The Kano/Craig David is good, especially in the context of this week. I love contexts.

Yeah regardless of the quality of the Elvises I'm not ticking any of them on principle. GO AWAY STOOPID OLD MUSIC.

HEIN

Did he just say 'different toilet seat'???

Awww Kano is very cute. I kind of want to take him home and put him in my pocket. But where is Craig David? I can only see this muscle-y dude in shades who has a totally different voice to our Craig....oh wait. WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED THERE?

Haha did you ever hear 'Brown Eyes' off his first album? That will make you want him to be your boyfriend EVEN MORE. I love Kano so much. Pity his new album is so terrible (this track and the really awesome Vybz Kartel dancehall one are the only good ones).

ha, i guess it's "different toilet seat, same sh!t", although that's still an appalling metaphor...

craig david appears to have been in the vicinity of a pie or two, eh?

good syndrum playing there as well.

moggu, i think you may be onto something with this kano for mumpop thing :)

If Sean Kingston does not win I will seriously consider leaving this community FOREVER!!

Our perspectives are bound to be different I guess since urban music is virtually invisible in Scotland.

This is a polite way of saying that the Sc0ts are all racialists when it comes to music.

Some pop scientist is going to one day create a combination of Happy Hardcore and Chemikal Underground that actually works and then Scottish music history will end forever.

Good poll action Moggy!

I don't really like 'Stand By Me' (or at least am totally not interested in it being sampled) nor the 'suicidal' thing so NEIN TICKNE

[identity profile] alexmacpherson.livejournal.com 2007-08-27 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought it would get, like, unanimous approval! It's so sweet. SUICIDAL, SUICIDAL. Plus JoJo's response! "When I do the dutty wine" - do we think that JoJo actually a) knows what the dutty wine is b) does the dutty wine?

[identity profile] katstevens.livejournal.com 2007-08-27 11:31 am (UTC)(link)
Sean Kingston - gets a tick for the SUICIDAL, SUICIDAL bits which are k-awesome. And you can't fault the choice of sample - that Ben E King backing was crying out for some RnB thievery.

Elvises - I really like both these Elvis tracks! And I ticked him last week so I should be consistent really.

Kano & Craig - great chorus, Kano is very endearing.

Maximo Park - judging by the title this song is going to make me Very Very Angry, isn't it. Oh wait, it's just another boring song that doesn't even provoke a reaction for me. Whatevs.

Kaisers - terrible dirge of a song and minging concept video.

Well, it is to all intents and purposes a Sunday...

Not here in Scotland it's not you IMPERIALIST!!!

[identity profile] carsmilesteve.livejournal.com 2007-08-27 12:15 pm (UTC)(link)
i think calling an irishman an imperialist is a bit off don't you? ;)

anyway, youse lot had yr bank holiday three weeks ago didn't you?

Sean Kingston went from a sort-of-intriguing to really grating very quickly for me, and that song seems vexingly ubiquitous here in the capital. There were also posters for it on every spare bit of wall at the Notting Hill Carnival, although I don't actually remember hearing it played at any of the sound systems yesterday.
