It is THAT TIME OF YEAR again when the Trig Brother event happens, so this is the post to announce it and see if any of you would like to join in: we got a fine crop of LJ people last time and it would be good to get some again.

What is Trig Brother?

It is a competitive (but fun and friendly) pub crawl very loosely based on top Reality TV show Big Brother. The basic idea is that participants are ejected from the crawl, one by one, usually by the votes of other crawlers and the 'general public' or some stand-in thereof.

Generally there is some form of task (answering a question, performing some pub activity) which will have a bearing on evictions.

What happens to evicted contestants?

They return to a "Home Pub" where they drink, await fellow evictees, compose scurrilous tabloid headlines, draw topical lolcats, publically bemoan their fate, play the quiz machine, etc etc. They also get to take their revenge in the final vote. Having been a contestant myself (and evicted very early), I can confirm that the evictee-filled home pub is where the real party action generally happens.

Is it horribly competitive?

The point of the day is for everyone to have a great time so we try hard to make sure there's no actual ill-feeling generated. Obviously, there is plenty of mock-drama and injustice to be shouted about back at the home pub.

Can I play if I've played before?

YES. Several people have made multiple attempts to claim the Trig Brother crown. You can't play if you've WON it before though.

Can I play if I don't know many people?

YES - in fact you probably stand a better chance of doing well, and it's a good way to put faces to a few Interweb names.

What does the winner get?

Glory and honour.

If I don't drink alcohol will I still enjoy it?

The dependent variable is probably your tolerance of people who DO - but several virtual teetotallers have played in Trig Brother and prospered.

When is it?

Saturday 15th September - it will start at around 2 and finish between 7 and 8 - though generally participants stay in the pub afterwards.

How do I play?

Just say so in the comments! If you want to come along and spectate that's fine too (though if we're short on players we may try and persuade you). We need about 12 players though can accomodate more.

Oh bother - that clashes with End of the Road Festival, otherwise I might have been up for that.
