Here's the final group in Round 1 - RELIGION. You know the drill by now - listen to the tracks, pick your favourite two, vote in the poll before next Monday noon. Zipfile (28Mb) is here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/t0tk21 and the tracks are streamed here: http://freakytrigger.co.uk/ft/2007/07/pop-open-week-8/

[Poll #1030830]

Thanks to blue_russian, inhibitorylinks, justfanoe, umlauts, and zenith for their tracks this week! Reveals up on Thursday or Friday - if you'd like to write the reveal reviews, let me know.

And - what would YOU have entered?

I recognise it but I'm only 90% sure what it is - ticked 'knew it' on this basis

It's a shame cos it's the only one of the five I really like, sorry dudes.

I thought they were all pretty good! Two and Three especially.

nb - i am not the person who submitted the track tho (or involved in this much at all)

It's also the track I was considering choosing for the next round, annoyingly enough. Time to get thinking again.

Yes, the album is very strange indeed, but in a brilliant way.

because of this and because all my CDs are now close to hand i was just playing it, and MAN ALIVE but the lyrics are twisted crazy madness.

twisted genius - some very unusual subject matters for this kind of pop music as well.

"Glory in the circumcision / Whoops! there goes the Freudian slip!" has had me giggling for YEARS! It is brilliantly bonkers in the most compact way.

I think I actually like my track best, which is nice (though I'm biased). This would be a really tough week for me if I were voting though, because I enjoy all 5 tracks.

argh, unloved again

I know track 5 (surprised I'm the only one so far - isn't this canon?).

I don't dislike any of the others, but one of them definitely stands out after 1 play.

It was the only one I knew - one of the best tracks on that album, I think. Funny too - "No more wearing beanies and dressing like genies!"

FIVE GRAND SLAMS! What a way to end Round 1!

I loved all of these! First time I'm not voting right away! Damn!

Another good week! I have two borderline knows here, but both dodged a tick -- track 1 I'm almost certain I've heard, but I'm equally certain I've never known what it is, if I have; and while I'm almost certain I know what track 2 is, I'm not 100% on whether I've actually heard it (at least in whole).

It was a struggle to pick my second place vote this week. I'm kinda crushed about having to leave track 3 voteless, because it's really striking and was a first-listen favourite.

Sheer demographics and shared listening tastes mean I'm pretty sure I know which one's inhibitorylinks' is (and I love that song too) and I am 99% sure I could pick who picked what out of the rest.

Mine was a risky pick! I nearly submitted a song with such a tenuous link to the theme beyond having "Pray" in the title, then I SERIOUSLY contemplated submitting the Jimmy Eat World cover of Low's "If You Were Born Today", which NOBODY would pick as me.
