I was really disappointed by this initially, as an Umbrella follow-up, but it's definitely grown on me.

Erm, that's probably all I've got to say - without YouTubing - about any of this week's, except that Newton Faulkner sounds like he should be making owlish concept albums with a Will Oldham guest appearance. Maybe he IS, and it's just that people are buying them.

'Shut Up And Drive' is really depressing. It doesn't lift off, there's no space, there's no lightness...it grinds grimly and relentlessly, Rihanna's flat voice doesn't help matters, WHY OH WHY are people going nuts for it? I have spent so much time trying to pimp out every r&b diva under the sun to people and they only show enthusiasm for shit like this :(

I haven't heard the Green Day effort, but how bad can it be? Even S***c Y***h couldn't mess up The Simpsons Theme.

Manics - this would have to be superamazing to get a tick from me. It isn't, though the lyrics are quite baffling.

Newton F - DIRE BEYOND DIRE.

Rihanna - better than the above two by miles but still too annoying to tick (see Rih vs Ame post for details).

Green Day - not a bad effort, good 'heys', but I don't particularly need to hear this tune again. Ever.

PWTs - pleasant guitar picking but ultimately ininteresting.

Yves Larock - not as good as that remix of 'Sun Is Shining'. Reasonable video of dudes skipping.

FFAF - now losing will to live. DONT LIKE ANY!

Ha I had no idea what Newton F or PWTs were, and now your post means I don't need to make an effort to find out. DON'T LIKE ANY round here too. What Rihanna/Amerie post btw?
