Me too. I love Hits!TV and TMF (when TMF is actually playing music). I was watching it yesterday afternoon and realised that 1) even on ballads Avril is AN UTTER MENTAL and is totally amazing 2) Enrique Iglesias is still grebt 3) the trajectory of the Rihanna video is inversely proportional to that of the song (ie the former getting MORE RUB whilst the latter is STILL IMPROVING).

I have two problems with this video:

1) His face always lookss like the last peach in Tesco
2) The "parody" director conceit blows my irony meter

The Rihanna video should be utterly broken, it looks like it was put together by rolling a dice, but somehow it works. And am I right in think it does a fadeout just liek the song? The key to their mutual success!

whaaat the best bit of 'Umbrella' the song is right at the end, "I'll be all you need and mooo-OOOOO-OOORRRRREEEE BECAUSE -", and the best bit of the video is the first verse when she fends off the water with her hands.

The water chucking is really good - why couldn't they have made a bigger thing of that (like the Aly & AJ vid) instead of the HORRID 'sechsy dancing' with the brolly/out-of-focus ballet strutting, which are both k-unflattering to poor old Ri. The painted-silver bits are just creepy.

Mmm yes the brolly dancing is very...stilted, isn't it. I have this vision of Beyoncé and Ciara, on seeing it for the first time, simultaneously ringing each other up to point/laugh/cackle/gloat.

I like to think of the painted silver bits as a kind of Grace Jones tribute.
