Can any of you help out my friend [livejournal.com profile] offensive_mango with her search for a certain version of 'Blue Moon'? She wants to know:

"Who did that version of "Blue Moon" that isn't the doo-wop version, but instead the soft, slow, romantic version that you sometimes get on the radio? It's definitely a male group rather than a male soloist (or indeed a female soloist).

Here are some people it definitely isn't:

The Marcels (too doo-wop)
Mel Torme (too non-traditional)
Elvis Presley (male soloist)
Sha-Na-Na (too jazzy/fast)
Frank Sinatra ((too jazzy/fast))
Nat King Cole (too jazzy/fast)
Ella Fitzgerald (too female)
Billie Holiday (too female)
Cowboy Junkies (too recent)
Showaddywaddy (too doo-wop)
Sam Cooke (too jazzy/fast)"

None of her friends list have come up with the right answer, but surely one of you knows...

AND! I should also say that it's from around the 1950s--definitely not recent.

Thank you [livejournal.com profile] miss_newham!!

I think it might be the Bobby Vinton one...

Wasn't that Blue Velvet?

That's his big song, but I'm almost certain it's Bobby Vinton singing Blue Moon in An American Werewolf in London...

Just checking imdb: yep! http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082010/soundtrack

Although!!!!

Some rudimentary digging around reveals that the Vinton one may be that "bo-bo-bo-bo-a-dang-a-nang-nang" super fast version! I can't find the right one here at work. I'm now thinking that there's a version by The Platters which might be it!

I originally thought it was The Platters, but I can't find any evidence that a Platters version exists, even though other people on the internet seem to agree that they've heard one by The Platters.

I'm sure it's on a Platters vinyl album that my mum has... But I can't find direct evidence of it either.

Do you happen to have an mp3 of that, or are you able to tell me where I could buy one? I didn't think it was the American Werewolf one, but having listened to every recorded version of Blue Moon that is available on the internet and iTunes today, I'm desperate to collect every last version now.

There's a download of it on there - the Bobby Vinton one is very mellow and gentle, not like the crazy Marcels version. It has w weird start but it might be the one you mean.

Thank you so much!

That's beautiful and almost perfect--not the one I'm thinking of, but the best of the 560873^58 versions I've listened to today. If I never find the one I want, I'll use that one for the SECRET THING I'm thinking of.

HANG ON

You = American. In London.

You're not going to transform into a werewolf and eat us, are you?
