But can anyone tell me why I seem to like anything that Enrique Iglesias puts out?



Okay, well, a quick look at Wikipedia suggests that he's put out about 3,000 singles, and I've only heard about 10 of them but still... I mean, I think I even like the Lionel Richie duet (!!)

Moments like this remind me of a bit I heard years ago in a documentary about Motown. Someone or other was talking about working with Smokey Robinson and how "he taught me how to write a hook for a pop song." Ever since, I've had this persistent feeling that if only I knew enough music theory to fully transcribe pop songs, I would be able to figure out the secret mathematical formula that made them so catchy. Enrique's stuff has to be built with the same magic, I think.

I really like the ping pong song - the appeal is down to a combination of aforementioned ping pong noise, and the main chorus melody. Enrique isn't my usual type (I prefer bolshy lasses who are a few sangers short of a picnic) but he comes across really well in the video. Keep it up, Riquers!

I have to admit I really like "Escape", which I think doesn't quite fit with the rest of the Enrique singles sonically or melodically. It's too... crisp, too direct... to really go with the others, but it's those qualities that really appeal to me about it, which may explain why I don't like any of his other songs.

Enrique Eglesias has this sort of 'this shouldn't work but it really does' in everything about him, from his music to his general appearance. It mystifies me. Earlier I was watching the video for the ping pong song whilst eating breakfast and was also struck by the fact he appears to be getting younger, which is also strange since he's not old enough for the botox etc. yet I would have thought.

Presumably he is some kind of philosophical paradox or something.

He is getting younger isn't he! It's only in the past year or so that I've found him hott.

I pretty much dislike all his singles w/ the exception of 'Not In Love' (his duet with Kelis) (though she may as well not have been on it for all she contributed to it), but I am fond of Enrique, because he seems to have made Anna Kournikova v happy.
