Next week's group will be...

MONEY! (if [livejournal.com profile] dubdobdee sends me a track)

or

DEATH! (if [livejournal.com profile] poptasticuk sends me a track)

or (and I'm pretty surprised at this)

INJUSTICE! (if [livejournal.com profile] celentari sends me a track)

(or one of the others which need 2 or more tracks to collect the set)

ALSO! (of course I actually mean "ITEM!") - this weekend I am selecting the THEMES for round 2. There will be 6 groups, if I (or rather, you) can think of another classic pop lyric which lists six things then maybe I will use it. Or if you just have a good idea for a theme let me know!

There is a TOP ORGAFUN REASON why I am picking them now, before the Sex Winners get announced on Monday. This is that, if you come top of yr group, you get to CHOOSE which theme you will get next time (& maybe something else too).

The last lot were from a "classic"? I had to look it up on google. ;-)

As to new themes, how about something around (the) PAST, (the) PRESENT and (the) FUTURE? I appreciate that's only half of what you need.

...you could always round things out (staying on a Shangri Las tip) with GLAD, BAD and SAD I suppose.

Concept, Structure, Implementation. I can't remember what they're for exactly in IR but it's something terribly boring to do with the boring EU and/or boring British administrative procedures and probably a billion other things but I think they'd be quite interesting fer song themes.

Also I have no other ideas but feel compelled to contribute.

I have been racking my brains

Alas there are only five elements to Daft Punk's 'Around The World' (robots,
tall athletes, synchronized swimmers, skeletons, mummies) and seven bits in 'Only Living Boy In New Cross' (gypsies, travellers, thieves, the good, the bad, the average and unique), not counting the grebos and the crusties.

Rick says: Up, down, charm, strange, truth and beauty. But the last two are actually 'top' and 'bottom'. Blimmin' physicists.

Alas there are only five elements to Daft Punk's 'Around The World'

'Feel Good Hit Of The Summer' has seven.

NICOTINE, VALIUM, VICODIN, MARIJUANA, ECSTASY, ALCOHOL, COCAINE.

Could skip Vicodin (as it's rather more obscure than the rest), and just use the other 6 as themes?

I'd like to see categories dealing with uncommonly discussed visceral, bodily, and other reactions that influence how we listen to music without being discussed (explicitly) that much in rock/popcrit.

HUNGER and/or THIRST, ITCHINESS and/or BURNING, NAUSEA and/or HEADACHE, INDIFFERENCE, CAFFEINATION, FATHERLY/MOTHERLY PRIDE, THAT FEELING YOU GET WHEN YOU HAVEN'T BRUSHED YOUR TEETH, INSCRUTABLE AWE, INEXPLICABLE LOSS OF SENSE OF PURPOSE (i.e. "WHAT IF I WAS DEAD" MCR excluded), THAT THING THAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU SEE COLORS IN FRONT OF YOUR FACE AND SPACE OUT (Stan Brakhage excluded, except he wasn't a big music guy), SUDDEN URGE TO MAKE FUNNY FACES, INTESTINAL DISTRESS, EXHIBITIONISM, AIMLESS UNSATISFYING HORNINESS (Green Day "masturbation has lost its fun" included but a stupid choice cuz everyone will know it!), SMALL-SCALE INFERIORITY, LIKE WHAT YOU [ER, I] GET IN THE PRESENCE OF PEOPLE MUCH TALLER THAN YOU [ER, ME], I WORRY ABOUT MY WEIGHT/BODY TYPE/VARIOUS SPECIFIC BODILY IMPERFECTIONS BUT STILL HAVE PRETTY GOOD SELF-ESTEEM I THINK, I REALLY DON'T WANT TO GO OUT TODAY BUT I PROBABLY SHOULD, A BAGEL WOULD BE NICE BUT I'M JUST NOT THAT HUNGRY (JUST EATING CUZ OF BOREDOM), I WONDER IF THERE'S ANYTHING ON TV RIGHT NOW, SLIGHT OPTIMISM, HYPOGLYCEMIC DISCOMFORT. Just to name a couple.

Also: WORDPLAY (FOR ITS OWN SAKE), SMUGNESS, MISPLACED HOPE IN MANKIND, WELL-PLACED HOPES IN MANKIND, S&M (broadly defined, so most Ashlee Simpson tunes count), PRETENTIOUS IDEAS THAT FAIL MISERABLY ON THE TERMS OF THE IDEA BUT STILL MAKE FOR A GOOD TUNE (a la "Dear God," also the only contender I can think of in a RELIGION subgenre, ARGUMENT FROM EVIL-POP), PRETENTIOUS IDEAS THAT SURPRISINGLY SUCCEED DESPITE THE FACT THAT THE TUNE'S NOT AS GOOD AS IT COULD BE, INDIGNATION, OBNOXIOUSNESS, STOOPID BUT CLEARLY SMARTER THAN THAT I MEAN C'MON, 2-BIG-4-BRITCHES, MODERATE CONSUMERIST EMPOWERMENT (e.g. "Lip Gloss").
