[identity profile] freakytigger.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] poptimists
The League Of Pop final has proved interesting logistically in terms of how many votes (as many as the smaller PWC games so far) but especially in terms of the amount of commentary - very minimal, probably because there's a content post and then a vote post and no track reveal and and and where do you actually DISCUSS the stuff? (Especially as all 4 songs are good!)

So last night I came up with a brainwave for the Pop Open. 5 songs in a group, right? So post one of them each day during the week, let it have its moment in the sun, and on the final day put a zipfile up with them all in (for people who can't be botherd with separate downloads) and do the actual vote at the start of the next week. This still leaves a question surrounding reveals but I think it will work, so that's what we're going to do one idea that I am vacillating over.

Still on 21 out of 41 btw. The track I really need (to give me a full group to go with next week) is [livejournal.com profile] infov0re's contribution to the SEX group. The VIOLENCE, LOVE, PASSION and DEATH ones are also two away from being complete. MONEY is on 2 out of 5, RELIGION on 1 out of 5 and let us not speak of INJUSTICE.

what about combining content (one big zip file) and vote posts and then link back posts every day with comments disabled?

i'm not sure posting one a day will increase commenting/discussion becuase rly, how many ppl will be @rsed/are phsically able to download tracks one at a time? so the majority will wait for the weekend and od it as a lump then (i certainly would anyway)...

That's what I'd do but it depends on how many people can d/l music at work really.

reveal in terms of who is responsible for each track or what each track is, or both?

let us not speak of INJUSTICE

I disagree. Let us highlight INJUSTICE wherever it occurs. For instance, why did they let her out early (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6731143.stm)?

She has Hepatitis? This is the only "medical problem" I can think of which might justify it.

Although obv. it's more likely to be 'WAAAH I DON'T LIKE JAIL'

I actually think the usual real reason is that the vindictiveness of the judge and/or public loses out when weighed against the fact that there are [s]hundreds[/s] [s]thousands[/s] millions of people to be put in jail in America, and therefore people who aren't really dangerous are released so that the system can find space for [s]black men[/s] violent types.

This week has just happened to be vvv busy in the evenings so I haven't even had a chance to dll or listen to any of the Final tracks!

I think a link back to the 'reveals' will be fine for spurring along comment. It's hard to chat about something if you're not sure what it is!

I cannot think of anything to send for the PO which is not obnoxiously political and/or rubbish. :( I will try to send something by the end of the week though.

I feel strangely proud to be the only person to have submitted a Religion track. Also it makes me feel I may have screwed the pooch big time, but what are you gonna do.

another idea

part of what stimulates the discussion, i think is having someone start things off. i have a suggestion that would work pretty well (i think) although it would require a bit of extra work from certain people.

post all the tracks on whatever day. then at specified later interval, an appointed raconteur will write reviews of all tracks (a la League of Pop), and the voting and comments will be in that post. I would suggest having the League of Pop winner do the first Pop Open week, and then the "winner" of each Pop Open week be appointed the raconteur for the following week. (their opinions/votes wouldn't count for more than anyone else's, it would just get things started).

or you could just get volunteers.

Or I could do it myself!

I thought that, too, but didn't want to impose :)

I was going to suggest you do this for the League Of Pop finals: post your discussion of the songs early Monday, people blab, then midafternoon do the reveal.

Sex track: OK, I can do that tonight, I think. I know what I'm going to choose, for sure, and I know I've got it at home.

Please please can you do it so we can listen to the songs without downloading if we want to? I suggest mydatabus.com

Yeah, what Jessica said...if you use a program that lets you stream OR download, the daily plan would work just fine. People who wouldn't download could at least listen to the song once to discuss, and then download at the end of the week.
