OK, here's how this works:

1. Download this 25 Mb zipfile: http://www.sendspace.com/file/h96dqj

2. Listen to the tracks. Decide which you think are the two best ones.

3. Tomorrow I will post a poll and you can vote in it.

4. You can comment here or on the poll.

5. PLAYERS: Please do not reveal which track is yours!

Question: is 25Mb too much for a single download? I need to know for the Pop Open - if necessary I can cap the bitrates at 192 and keep the totals down that way.

Pop Open: 17 out of 41 tracks in - no single group filled as yet! Keep them coming!

Track three

I've been hunting for this for AAAAAGES, but could never find it. I only have it on tape and really wanted it on my iPod so thank you whoever it was who submitted. It really is an ace track, so good to hear it again. Tracks 1 & 2 are brilliant too, will be a tough choice on who to vote for.

Oh - and Track Three also has the artwork, so anyone with iTunes who doesn't want to know what this is should turn the artwork viewer off before adding it to your library

I can delete the artwork in iTunes and then send it back to you so you can update the zipfile? No idea about WMP which I don't use

Well, given the fact that they say who they are five or six times during the track, this shouldn't really make any difference.

The artwork appears to come with the "media info" which, once 'found' doesn't seem to be 'unfindable' on Windows, only 'updateable'. Since Windows Media Player appears to be geared towards ripping from CD/DVDs, the only sure way to stop the media info from being encoded is to set the privacy settings prior to ripping to "don't search for media info".

I just tried editing all the "album info" on track 3 and replacing it with fake info, with some success, but it's a lot of faff and I'm not 100% sure I got rid of the artwork.

I can't even remember what I submitted now - I had a shortlist of around six and think I even sent three of them to Tom before changing my mind! Maybe I will put up the others afterwards to see whether they would have fared better or worse - none are really eligible for my group in the Pop Open.

What's the Pop Open address again? And I'm not sure how to strip track tags...I don't use Media Player or iTunes, just download and put on my mp3 player y'see.

Wahey! v. excited by final...

Download was fine for me.

Fine for me too. Liked all four songs a lot - only one I already knew (and am 99.99% sure who sent it).

I only knew one also, and am 100% sure who sent it. But actually, at least as far as style goes, I can imagine myself having sent any of the four, and I can think of at least one of the other players who could have sent the one I sent. And the only reason I think I know which one Lex sent is that I'm thinking there are three others he'd be less likely to know, not that there are three others he'd be less likely to like (or to have sent if he had known them).

By the way, since it doesn't matter at all whether I win or not* - this being the final - I'm going to vote for at least one of the tracks I didn't submit. And if my own track isn't in my top two, I'll vote for two of the others.

*Unless there's a prize for the winner, such as an invitation to a future Poptimism Club Night w/ travel expenses included.

Is the poll going to be "answers viewable to: None"? (I guess same question applies to Pop Open polls)

I think it will be more suspenseful - and hopefully more fun - that way.

I presume we can't vote for songs we already know?

Oh yes, I'd forgotten that.

And on second thoughts, maybe having the running totals visible isn't such a bad thing after all. It might encourage more voting/comment.

Remind me again - the more people that know a track the less your chance to go through, correct? This means that winners will be judged on the total number of votes received? Or will there be some way to calculate a percentage of "eligible" voters? (For example: 48 Poptimists vote in Group X. Half of all Poptimists already know "La Isla Bonita" by Madonna, but three-fourths of the remaining Poptimists love the track. Relatively speaking that should be enough to go through, but on absolute numbers it might not be enough.)

Just trying to figure how risky it is to go with something that a reasonable number of people might know.

which bit?

are we doing simple first past the post or complicated number of votes out of number of people who didn't know it?

Corrupted File

Tom, for what it's worth, my player says that Track Two is a corrupted file and is balking at playing it - will play it sometimes but not consistently. I'll let you know if this turns out to be a problem.

It's a fine track, by the way; in fact, may even be the one that I submitted, in which case I apologize should anyone else have difficulties with it.

I recognized track 4 about 0.1 seconds into it and I'm pretty much 100% sure I know who submitted it. The other three are all new to me and all sound pretty good.

I should note that track 4 is a stellar track.

Okay 100% sure is an exaggeration but I am prone to overstatement and like guessing, and since I'm not stating who I think it is, per the rules, I can always claim I'm right anyways.
