I cannot remember if this has ever been asked on ILM before, but anyway, it comes out of a chat I had on teh Gmail last night.

What is better: COUNTING in songs, or SPELLING in songs? Particularly good or rub examples of both welcome.

Supplementary question: Is counting down better than counting up?

Often it just seems to be lazy songwriting. See also days of the week in song lyrics.

The Gossip - Listen up:
Count it with me now!
1, 2, 3 take it from me,
3, 4 so much trouble in store
4, 5 get it right,the first time

That doesn't even rhyme at the end.

On the other hand the Jacksons pulled it off pretty well:

A B C
Easy as...
1 2 3
Or simple as...
Do re mi
A B C, 1 2 3, baby, you and me, girl!

So maybe it depends on the song
