I have 0 idea who Scott Matthews is!

Neither do I, although strangely, I have that song, as it was one of iTunes' free downloads of the week some time in late 2005/early 2006.

Elusive Scott is WINNAR

So is it the best song musically and lyrically of 2006? I think the poptimist nation should be told.

It's a nice tune. But would you believe, it was on my old iPod, which died three weeks ago, and I don't have it backed up. Assume I can retrieve it through iTunes though. Will give it a go and come back with thoughts/upload it.

I heard it in Radio 2 last night. He's basically the male Kathryn Williams - another earnest troubador - although his voice is similar to Blunt's, I agree.

I didn't hate the song, the melody is quite pretty.

Also Sir E. John! I was actually thinking yesterday that it sounds closer to one of his songs than usual, which one is it sampling?

And despite all that, it still is considerably worse than its lyrical opposite "You Make Me Feel Like Dancing" by one L. Sayer. Really, now, the most "performed work" is kind of already decided on some kind of quantitative matter, but I can't really think of any qualitative thing which says it's one of the 3 best songs of the year, and "Rudebox" - well, what are the criteria for that last one - surely not size of hit, as "Rudebox" wasn't really THAT big anywhere was it?

I am the only person on the planet who thinks Hot Chip are crap.

Hmm, surely you would hire Bernie Taupin if you want a great song, and Elton if you want people to go "Oooh, he sounds like them and now he's working with them"? Though for a not-that-great song, it is annoyingly floor-filling.

From Wikipedia: "When the song was released in September that year, it reached number-four in the UK Singles Chart, elsewhere the song did a lot better, hitting number-one in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Italy, Germany, Switzerland and Turkey, charting at number-two in the Eurochart."

and...

"Elsewhere, the album was received with a warmer reception by the public, hitting number-one in fourteen countries including Argentina, Australia, Finland, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Spain & Switzerland...On November 8 2006, IFPI certified the album 2x Platinum in Europe with sales of over 2 million making it the fastest platinum selling album of 2006.[78] The album finished at number-eighteen in the list of 2006's best selling albums worldwide. It was also the best selling album outside the US, by a solo artist. To date the album has sold almost 4 million copies worldwide."
