A new month, a new poll! Get that tick rate going again!

[Poll #982157]

All previous polls are still open, etc etc. if you've "got into" any of the year's pop platters since their initial blushing entrance to the charts.

I really like the Hellogoodbye! Boston meets Benassi. Could do without the wimpy vocals in the verse, but the vocoder saves them.

Dada is good, but there have been lots of better things in that style.

Jamie T = rub.

JoJo great as ever.

Michael B. I am blatantly NOT in the demographic for this one. Clearly given my hellogoodbye love I should be listening to classic rock radio (and not mentioning recent Fleetwood Mac download spree). I am not ashamed of that, mind.

I just ordered two Fleetwood Mac albums off Amazon!

Rumours and Tusk! ie the ones people keep mentioning. They were £4 each and I got a bunch of other stuff to get the free delivery so it's not as if it matters if I hate one or the other.

D'oh! Lex you have bought the WRONG edition of Tusk, featuring the shameful edit of "Sara". (Beware Amazon cheap deals.) I shall send the proper version to your ginbox in due course.

Isn't this the original version?

Well no, the double 12" vinyl is the original :P

It is the first CD edition, yes, but at the time CD technology was not up to handling the full running time of Tusk so they used the single edit of "Sara" so they could fit everything onto one CD.

Only this edition (http://www.amazon.co.uk/o/ASIN/B00009RAJJ/ref=s9_asin_title_1/202-4322148-8989446?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-1&pf_rd_r=0VXC4N42M06XXE7BZKP2&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=137840191&pf_rd_i=468294) has the complete, original version of the LP on the first disc.

Lex, when you get home you must listen to this live version of "Rhiannon", which adds four incredible minutes that are way way way beyond what's on the album track (which wasn't on one of the two albs you bought anyway). Definitely tell me what you think.

That live version is awesome!! thanks for linking it... beats hell out of everything in this poll, except possibly JoJo.

(Should we be worried that in the 2007 poll we're talking about a record made more than 20 years ago?)

Nah. 2007 has been decidedly average for singles so far. Only Avril, Amerie and Tash-Bed have released anything to write home about, pop-wise. The dance/electro side of things is faring slightly better though.

2007 has been awesome! My top 10 stretches well over 50 at the moment though it's bolstered by a load of bobbins 12"s and US hip-hop/r&b. In terms of UK Top 40 hits so far:

1. Ciara - Like A Boy
2. Nelly Furtado - Say It Right
3. Amerie - Take Control
4. Avril Lavigne - Girlfriend
5. Amy Winehouse - Back To Black
6. Amy Winehouse - You Know I'm No Good
7. The Gossip - Standing In The Way Of Control
8. Fergie ft Ludacris - Glamorous
9. Hilary Duff - With Love
10. Natasha Bedingfield - I Wanna Have Your Babies
11. JoJo - Too Little Too Late
12. P Diddy ft Keyshia Cole - Last Night

speaking of which...

As of this second, not confining myself to dreary Brit charts:

1. Lloyd f. Lil Wayne "You"
2. Ashley Tisdale "Not Like That"
3. JoJo "Anything"
4. Yung Berg "Sexy Lady"
5. Keak Da Sneak "That Go"
6. Linda Sundblad "Lose You"
7. Taylor Swift "Teardrops On My Guitar"
8. Dragonette "I Get Around"
9. Rihanna f. Jay-Z "Umbrella" [also the remix w/ Lil Mama]
10. Kelly Clarkson "Never Again"
11. Sadie Ama "Fallin'"
12. Lil Mama "Lip Gloss"

Plus a whole bunch of album tracks I'm not going to worry about (Miranda Lambert, yet more JoJo, yet more Taylor Swift), plus about another dozen tremendous singles.

None of those are bad by any means! But only Tash, Am and Av have made me go OH EM GEE AWESOMENESS. Like I said, the bosh side of things fares much better.

There have been 6 (!) albums released already so far in 2007 that would have made my top 10 in 2006 (Miranda Lambert, Hilary Duff, Fall Out Boy, LCD Soundsystem, Avril, Jordan Pruitt), which makes it a pretty great year for albums. Still feels like a fairly weak year at the top for singles, to me. Of all the singles released so far this year, only "I Wanna Have Your Babies" would have made my top 10 last year. "The Best Damn Thing" is my favorite song released so far in 2007. 'Twill contend for my top spot if released.

Beats the JoJo, even. Beats a lot of what's on White Light White Heat and Crown Of Creation and Live Through This, for that matter (if that tells you how I tend to hear that song)(will explain to Lex what this entails once he tells me he loves it).

I am intrigued. Will look forward to you spilling the beans.

I listened to Rumours on the bus into work after my last post, and it sounded really really excellent -- don't think I've ever paid attention to it, just listened out for the ones I already know. Apart from the bits where the mp3s are shonky and sound like a VVM remix.

(note valuable FK mode of listening -- compare and contrast for likeness outside expected zones of comparision -- is rendered critical outsider-speak by the pernicious dominance of the concept of INFLUENCE)

"Expected zones of comparison" is indeed an influence - a negative influence, but negative influences are indeed within the meaning of the word "influence" (pernicious dominance of the (mediocre rock critics') concept of INFLUENCE is itself an influence on my use of a much better concept of influence; is also an influence on Mark's dislike of the word "influence").

(Seriously, I think "influence" is in a similar position to the word "irony": the word when used well is quite essential, but now is weighed-down by all sorts of lazy moronic uses that the word has been put to.)

I predict you will not like Tusk. Much Art going on.

I prefer both Mirage and Fleetwood Mac (the 1975 one, with Rhiannon).
