1. Is there a better Easter song than "Roll Away The Stone"?

2. What is that "ella-ella-ella-ay-ay-ay-ay" bit in Rihanna's "Umbrella" really reminding me of? It's not R'n'B, I think.

3. Is the Apple/EMI announcement the end of DRM or the end of EMI (or neither)?

Oh and also...

Voted TashBed for best o' the month, though I still have not heard "Umbrella" or the new Hilary album.

"Roll Away the Stone" is def. the best Easter song. I also like "Were You There?" (actually a Good Friday song now that I think of it). "Easter Parade", of course, though that's not really one of Irving Berlin's best efforts.

Ah bums, was Natasha Bedingfilled this month? It's been a pretty good one all things considered. The chart poll for last week wasn't bad at all!

I get rather emotional re: 'Now the green blade riseth' because of the choon, which someone would sample if they had half a brain and the balls to take on The Church. (note to Charlotte re: comeback singles)

The 'ella, ella, ella, ella' bit kind of, in a very loose way, reminds me of the 'haiwa' (or however you'd write it) bits in an Emmanuel Jal song, if that's any help?

Oh akshully since I looked up the lyrics this morning, the Brand New song I mentioned in the poll is all about being crucified and GOD and stuff, ergo Easter-type. Although actually it is nowhere as good as 'Umbrella' so don't know why I mentioned it.

Haven't heard the LCD but I like everything else that's been mentioned in the Best Of March Poll so far, including the Brand New (somewhat), even if it is corny pseudoprofound indie emo shit ("So what did you do those three days you were dead?/'Cause this problem's gonna last more than the weekend"). Only listened to "Umbrella" once so it's gonna count for April. Three best songs on the Hilary are the dark, hurt, angry ones, "Stranger," "Danger," and "Happy" (the middle one is a Paris Hilton imitation and the last one may well be about being happy - haven't taken in any of the lyrics except for the WTF "Gypsy Woman" - but sounds as if it's shadowed by pain). Last year's suppressed Fefe Dobson album has leaked and based on the first half I haven't yet decided if the combination of vocal agony and pretty tunery is a mismatch that works or one that crashes.

Can't answer the "ella-ella-ella-ay-ay-ay-ay" question in specific, but in general Rihanna's singing on "Umbrella" (and other of her stuff) reminds me a lot of Nelly Furtado, the same rip of pain in the throat; think it works better in "Umbrella" whereas in the ballad version of "Unfaithful" it was too much (but dance remixes really made "Unfaithful" dance with a feet-friendly sorrow).

Speaking of Rihanna, over on the teenpop thread Xhuxk's been praising Bahamaian singer TaDa, likening her moves when in one mode to Rihanna and when in another to Lady Sov/Lily Allen (though Xhuxk's saying that those comparisons are only vaguely approximate). Anyway, I'm just not hearing enough in the songs, while Xhuxk's hearing "way more indelible and easily digestible hooks than on any Ciara or Cassie or JoJo or (closest comparison of these) Rhianna album I've heard." I've linked her CD Baby page so you can listen for yourself. I do recommend a listen - the music has a lilt and a prettiness.

Posted various faves in addition to "Ditto" on the ILM '11 fave songs of the moment...' thread about a week ago. "Hey Hey Hey" arrived too late for that list, so I will count it in the April reckonings instead - along with at least one more song by the Duffster no doubt.

Not sure if "Umbrella" will make the April list yet. If I was a betting man, I'd bet no.
