[identity profile] freakytigger.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] poptimists
A full house of tracks sent via sendshare.com yesterday to Zenith and Piratemoggy - I'll post public links later today.

Now onto WEEK THREE - with early league leader [livejournal.com profile] bengraham receiving tracks in the Pop Prem and [livejournal.com profile] jeff_worrell representing the chart championship. Here are their blurbs:

[livejournal.com profile] bengraham writes: "Hi, I'm Ben, but you can call me Ben. Someone cleverer than me once said "music is my first love and it will be my last" (was it Dr. Fox on Capital FM?) In my case, they were wrong. Music was my second love, after football. But for all that football is genius, it's quite hard to enjoy when you're crammed underground on a tube train. Also, I'm a big fan of tasty curry, and my tipple of choice is a whiskey and coke. Will that help you select a song for me? Probably not. But this next bit might... Five things I like: 1) guitar-heavy rock as long as there is a discernible melody layered within the roaring chords; 2) non-English language hip-hop; 3) electro-clash dance such as they used to play at Trash @ The End before it closed down; 4) dreamy American lo-fi, Grandaddy being, all told, the greatest band ever to have walked the planet; 5) the punkier end of the Britpop scale (OK, I admit, I am still a NINDIE at heart and should be kicked out of Poptimists for admitting as much)."

[livejournal.com profile] jeff_worrell writes: "Hello. I'm Jeff, 42 next month, tax policy wonk, currently living and working in London. Regular contributor to poptimists and sukrat. I own about a third of the number of albums that Martin Skidmore does. I love all types of music – except 19th century grand opera and what Alicia Silverstone in Clueless dubs “complaint rock” – and would rather listen to something I don’t know than something I do. That said, my five favourite pop things are: (1) songs with multi-part structures and silly time signatures, but with a tune you can hum; (2) most things electronic: from Moogs to microhouse; (3) songs made for driving along the Pacific Coast highway at midnight with the top down, preferably featuring the cream of LA session musicians; (4) breakbeats: both the original R&B tunes and the hip hop that sampled them; (5) most girlpop from French YéYé to current teen confessional. I’m currently in the mood for ‘epic’, if that helps any."

Fill in yr relevant nominations below, if you're a player, and if you think I'll have trouble finding the tracks send them to me at leagueofpop@googlemail.com!

[Poll #944904]

Deadline is Friday, and as ever, expect a reminder on Wednesday. Sometime this week I will also be putting up the League Of Pop webpage.

Have written some review things re: tracks, when do you want them? Could send them later today if don't just hand in essay and pass out. Will send this week's nomination when brain less closely resembles plate of cheese. :)

I don't remember that line from Clueless but it is brilliant shorthand for a lot of the music I hate so hurrah for that.

It should be pointed out that any player in either league submitting this song (http://www.chairboys.ndirect.co.uk/sounds/index.htm) is probably guaranteed first place. Perhaps we need a special rule this week forbidding its nomination? ;-)

Jeff? Are you a fellow Chairboy? Anyway, submitting that wouldn't result in a win because I already know the song (and listen to it about once a week, usually on a Saturday lunchtime), thus resulting in a draw. It is, however, the greatest football song ever.

I'm not playing, but I'm certainly watching :D

I sent Mr Graham a track called Basmati Breakdown.

Can email it to anyone else if they'd like?

Cue eleven 15 minute tracks. Is there a time limit, Tom?

More likely there's a MB upload limit (to Tom's patience).

But I would hope ppl will interpret 'epic' broadly, e.g. in terms of sound not just length.

* despite it fitting in epic, breakbeat and electronic categories, crosses 'Mother' by Goldie off shortlist *

you want faith no more, don't you?

It strikes me that since you're using gmail, maybe I should be sending the files themselves and not just YSI links. Let me (us) know how you prefer it.
