[identity profile] freakytigger.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] poptimists
Week 1 of the LoP has been a success, so far at least, with only one missing entry: zip files of the tracks were YSIed to Julio and Martin yesterday, and as soon as I know that Martin's got his I will make the links public. At some point this week each of them will post their reviews, which I will edit with the actual track IDs and scoring, and then the "winning" tracks may well get posted individually on a special page, a la the Pop World Cup.

MEANWHILE this week's matches see [livejournal.com profile] zenith and [livejournal.com profile] piratemoggy 'at home'. As before, please use the text poll below to name your track, and then if you think I might have a problem finding it, get it to me at leagueofpop@googlemail.com. Deadline is Friday, there'll be a reminder up on Wednesday. Let's find out more about them...

[livejournal.com profile] zenith sez: "My name's zenith and I am a lazy dilletante who occasionally writes about music or plays records for people to dance to but spends more time messing about on the internet or drinking in London's finest pubs. Five things I like: rap music especially when it's about sex, drugs and violence; the kind of dirty party electro with a bit of rock thrown in that really irritates dance purists; r&b at its most futurist; Afghan Whigs/Twilight Singers; shouty girls with guitars."

Selecting for zenith will be: xyzzzz, bengraham, hauntedballroom, alexmacpherson, inhibitorylinks, braisedbywolves, dubdobdee, strange_powers, jel_bugle, katstevens, fugitivemotel

[livejournal.com profile] piratemoggy sez: "F, 20, Wales. Bit of a goth at heart. Spends most of waking life trying to find new music. Old rave, industrial, shoegaze, punk, anything interesting; preferably all at once under great pop umbrella. Dislikes CSS because they're boringly knowing. Spending far too much of life drunk and/or reading about ballistic missile defence currently, likes any music that accompanies either of these activities."

Selecting for piratemoggy will be: martinskidmore, jeff_worrell, poptasticuk, lisa_go_blind, infov0re, lockedintheatti, skillextric, epicharmus, anthonyeaston, byebyepride, blue_russian.

[Poll #940196]

In other orgafun news, if you haven't voted in any of February's weekly chart polls, please do before I post some kind of monthly round-up.

Hm... goth girls.

Presumably this is because once you're publically named who submitted what for one round, it may influence the voting for the next round if the same song is still in there? What happens if someone submits a song that someone else has previously submitted?

I didn't receive anything at home up to about 11.30pm yesterday, Tom. What address did you use?

I almost never check the gmail, but I just did, and it is indeed there, so all is well.

Except I have to be logged in to YSI to get the file, so it will have to wait until this evening.

I have DLed and listened to the whole thing. I didn't know a single one of the songs! I think I know who three are by - well, four, as one still had a tag, but as I hadn't heard of the artiste that hardly counts. I also liked more than I disliked, which by the rules means at least one song that I genuinely like will get zero points, sadly.

Track 05 - it honestly makes no difference to my opinion of it, and you'll note I'm not pretending to have identified it myself!

No idea what track 5 is but

Listen on headphones if you can! I have recently (unfortunately) become sensitized to how much difference the compression on mp3s can make.
