Kelly Clarkson's "One Minute"
Feb. 20th, 2007 09:20 amGreg forwarded me the link to Kelly Clarkson debuting a new song live at Daytona Speedway. Reasonably good fidelity; she's pushing her music ever rockward without losing her r&b lilt and sexiness. Her voice is hoarse but that doesn't rein her in. Could this woman be rescuing rock for me? The song's not up there with "Maybe", but it's a good one. [EDIT: Thread contains Baldney content.][EDIT 2: Here are (all?) three songs from the Daytona performance; she obviously has a cold, sings well anyway; "Miss Independent" comes off best (and notice that in the middle the band interpolates the riff from Black Sabbath's "Iron Man"!)]

Date: 2007-02-20 04:56 pm (UTC)I read a bit of the fan discussion on the song, and there's big speculation that this could be the first single, given that it seems on the surface to have more commercial appeal than "Maybe" or "Anymore". Very mixed fan reaction to this song, but I'd imagine a lot of people on that board are old-time American Idol fans who want Kelly to do more vocal showoff work. There was this quote from one of the threads I thought you'd like: "I do not like the new song. I don't hate it, but Kelly can do much better. This is like an Ashlee Simpson song. It IS an Ashlee Simpson song". It seems to rock harder than most Ashlee to me, but it is Ashlee-like. Then again, so was most of Breakaway. Somebody else mentions offhand that "Since U Been Gone" was originally offered to Hilary Duff, which I find hard to believe.
