[identity profile] freakytigger.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] poptimists
Unfortunately I'm too busy to do the nice picture banner at the top of the post today, but here are the final two categories in the End of Year poll - as ever, multiple nominations gained you a place, in the case of "Track Of The Year" you needed a mighty THREE different poptimists to rep you, in the case of Lifetime Achievement, well erm yes.

The Lifetime Achievement contestants should need no introduction, even to the Lex. The Track of the Year nominees should also be familiar to most, though hopefully someone less hassled than me will get an opportunity to post YouTube/MySpace/etc links.

Thanks for nominating, voting, and especially commenting on the awards - they've been some very good threads. Normal services return next week, most likely.

Lex yr presentimist fervour is pretty much the #1 thing that keeps me even considering 2006 as a sort-of-viable year, for anglophone pop!

NYE: Michelle was thrown out! She'd left her ID at home and "looked 12" apparently. There seems to have been some sort of communications breakdown after that, we went and got a meal nearby thinking dudes would filter information through to you etc, I guess this didn't happen :(

It didn't, no one else knew where you'd went, the second last I saw of you was when Annabel, Marianna et al were leaving for the warehouse party - I assumed you'd gone with them until you turned up for about 5 seconds after midnight, semi-explained the above, and said you were on the way to Mile End to meet Cis and Gareth and Matt. Then they turned up at the warehouse party, said they never saw you, and I think I texted you the warehouse address...

Anglophone pop? British pop remains pretty shit but I don't think this matters because American pop is brilliant at the moment.

Why is American pop so into infidelity at the moment? It seems like a really big theme this year, I guess it could be T.I.'s influence?

Isn't it always a big theme in all pop? The motor of it, even! I guess this year there have been two ballads about infidelity which take strikingly original positions on it ('Unfaithful' and 'Irreplaceable') but I don't think it's been present more than usual.
