[identity profile] freakytigger.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] poptimists

Today's category is the slightly nebulous Act of the Year - six acts got more than one vote and we present them below: interesting to note the Poptimists heavyweights who didn't get multiple nominations.

Girls Aloud put out a Greatest Hits record.
Lily Allen MySpaced her way to stardom.
Justin Timberlake brought sexy back.
Paris Hilton was much talked about.
Aly and AJ were the salvation of teenpop.
Cassie stripped R&B down.

[Poll #899559]

Lifetime achievement and Track of the Year to follow!

No, a GA win = a lack of better alternatives to vote for. I don't think they've had a brilliant year but still deserve it more than the others on the shortlist.

In the process of trying to bring Sexy back, he seems to have managed to negate some of his sexiness and most of his interestingness. It just didn't excite me anywhere near as much the last album, and I tried, I really tried.

Cassie is much better than most of the crunky R&B that's around these days, but that's not saying an awful lot considering I still find most current R&B rather lifeless and insipid, which saddens me after being a total R&B fanboy ever since I started buying music in '87.

and Paris? Meh. The feud was more interesting than the music, unfortunately.
