Field report from my work Christmas party (50/50 gender split, mostly 25-35, almost all white):

NOT BANGERS: Justice vs Simian - "We Are Your Friends", The Feeling - "Fill My Little World" (though both of these created an enthusiastic contingent of followers. We played J vs S a little late too.) J-Tim - "Sexyback" (still my favourite record this year but I guess the boredom I've detected on the blogosphere is more general).

NEITHER BANGER NOR NON-BANGER: Girls Aloud - "Something Kinda Ooh" (ppl danced, but not with any great rush of glee - it was late so jury still out on this)

BANGERS: Nelly Furtado - "Maneater" (did its job). Gwen Stefani - "Wind It Up" (OMG! Makes TOTAL SENSE at high volume). Scissor Sisters - "I Don't Feel Like Dancing" (my own disappointment in this now tempered by its fearsome party strikerate - inspired most arm-waving and singing along of anything bar "Like An Prayer")

Big thanks to [livejournal.com profile] carsmilesteve and [livejournal.com profile] jauntyalan, my fellow scientists. We didn't play any contemporary rock or nindie in the end (cos more trad party big tunes were required) - also none was requested. With the exception of one poor couple who I felt for slightly as they came up and asked if we had any Cansei De Ser Sexy! The answer of course, was "Yes, and it's 11.30 at the company party and we're NO WAY going to play it." If only we'd had a poptimism flyer!

band name was originally Cansei De Ser Sexy, album self-titled. I assume that for er "marketing purposes" the band name in English-speaking territories is CSS. This is lame, obv.
