What I downloaded after Stevem's poll - and what I thought of it!
LeToya - "Torn": Lovely-ish R&B ballad but nothing that ever bites very deep. TICK.
Nelly and Janet - "Call On Me": Delicately pretty effort from two old stagers - forgettable in a pleasant way. TICK.
The Kooks - She Moves In Etc.: Very bad - since when is sounding like a busker something to aim for? NO TICK.
Lil Chris - Checkin It Out: Spunkily enjoyable in a way that grown ups doing this stuff isn't, also a good hook. May play at Poptimism. TICK.
Chamillionaire ft Krayzie Bone - Ridin' Dirty: top anthem for speed camera dodging Daily Mail readers. (Actually good fun despite this). Would play at Poptimism early on if in a hip-hop mood. TICK.
David Guetta vs The Egg - Love Dont Let Me Go: this has been around for a grillion years but I didn't know what it was called cos Radio DJs NEVER SAY ANYMORE. Not very good. NO TICK even if it was in this poll which it isn't.
Pussycat Dolls - I Don't Need A Man - Best PCDs track I've heard (tho still a 7 or 8 out of 10 only). Confidently bouncy, punchy 80s soul feel on the chorus. Would play. TICK.
P Diddy ft Nicole - Come To Me: Not much to say about this one. Pop-hop and Pop R&B is never awful but it's often quite distanced and lacklustre. NO TICK.
Chris Lake ft Laura V - Changes: Big-lunged house diva workout, fails to convince. NO TICK.
High School Musical - Breakin Free: Good stuff this! Big hooks and a lot of urgency (Lose Yrself/Tatu style tho maybe a bit less desperate). KEY CHANGE!!! TICK!
The Fratellis - Chelsea Dagger: Not as awful as I thought they might be! Competent stray cat strut style pop-a-billy very obviously designed for playing live in a small club. Gets a bit pub rock on the do-be-do chorus. NO TICK but close!
(my iTunes then decided to play AGE OF CHANCE who appear to share the Fratelli's singer! Oh dear.)
The Feeling - Never Be Lonely: Sort of bloodless Fleetwood Mac/ELO pastiche, waste of time for me right now as I'm listening to the actual Mac so much. NO TICK.
There are about 10 more but I fear I have delighted you enough.
