The Pazz and Jop polls take us to the fairly unheralded year of 1985, and the selection is.....well, judge for yourself and discuss below. You get NINE votes, cast them wisely.

Notes: The John Fogerty song that got in last time rose to #3(!!) this time. It was excluded.

OK, I've finally worked my way up to 9. And I voted for Dire Straits. Ach! And I'm not even going to name my ninth pick.

(But oddly enough, I didn't pick a worst; I mean, most of these are OK, you know, when they come on the radio. That Paul Young has a nice chorus. The R.E.M. is quite good until you reach the chorus. "Would I Lie to You" is a good song, but I wish Annie hadn't tried to prove that she can really sing soul. Annie, you can really sing soul, now so what? (She is really smoochable in the vid, btw.) Johnny Cougar probably gets underrated in these parts, though "Small Town" is hardly his best (and "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" isn't Tears' best). Um, whatever.
