version of events i heard was that the couplet above was the original and then they got into the studio and Sting was like "Bono, dude, I see a problem here" and Bono was all "eh?" - I really like it, as a story, a snapshot of those exciting early days of the charidee record. (of which the best btw is clearly "hands across america")
