So the Mercury was won by top "I heart 2005" skiffle band the Arctic Monkeys. And the Popjustice Pop prize was won by Gurls Aloud (beating Muse!). Which still leaves the MOST PRESTIGIOUS PRIZE OF ALL i.e. the Lex 20p Indie Prize.

Being on Poptimists makes you a member of the jury for this award, and you can nominate your top three picks from the shortlist in the sekrit poll below.

Just to remind you the nominees are:

The Automatic
Camera Obscura
The Feeling
The Guillemots
Kasabian
The Kooks
Lily Allen
The Pipettes
Test Icicles
The Young Knives

Write-in votes will be disqualified.

What criteria should you be using? It's up to you, but they might include:

- Quality of act.
- Indieness of act.
- How much the Lex would appreciate them winning.
- Haircuts.
- Etc.

[Poll #814990]

The results will appear on Friday and the announcement will take place at Poptimism TOMORROW when a song by the winner will be played. (NB this does not imply that songs by non-winners WON'T be played, sorry).

I voted based on which bands I think The Lex would/should hate most.

I think I went more or less this way, too.

I voted for the one I most want to hear at Poptimism, backed up by a couple of Lex hates.

Re: Poptimism - god help us if Test Icicles win.

Camera Obscura are indie, but a studied, revival kind. Like the Puppini Sisters for the C86 generation. They were berets and have a lead singer called Traceyanne, ffs, and they do Twee Swearing.

6Music have just played me: On and On followed by This Is How It Feels followed by Getting Away With It. What are you doing to me, BBC?

I'm sorry, I'm in a harsh mood.

I'm not wrong, though. They all probably wear wristbands with WWAD hand-embroidered on them: What Would Amelia Do?

I forgot! The Kooks have a song in which they sing of their dislike for TV's Grant Mitchell. 'I know, I am not fond of Ross Kemp', they trill. And how can any right-thinking popular entertainment fan disagree?

Don't know to what extent Pipettes hairstyle works for them or against them. Good hair, but sets up expectations that the music can't meet. (This q is academic for me, though, since no way are they near best or near worst.)
