Am I the only person who thinks Joy Division are dull and overrated? (Though I don't dispute their influence.)

it's the only joy division song i know - i suspect i would, generally, like them, but i can't be arsed.

it's not as bad as when Clodplay's 'Yellow' gets dropped at 'indie clubs'.

This only happened to me once actually, at Collide-A-Scope which is/was really a Kings College student union night open to the public. Rub night but lovely view of the Thames from their building.

"Love Will Tear Us Apart", like "The Birdie Song" and Usher's "U-Turn" has its own specific dance though that teh indie kidz all know and love.

because you can do ian curtis dancing to it, obv ;)

it's not that slow either.

search: transmission, she's lost control, atmosphere
leave: the rest of it, uber-miserablist proto-goth/em0 whinging...

I like 'Shadowplay' (I think this is the one I mean). Can't remember how 'Digital' goes.

It's quite easy. Pretend you have no muscle control in your neck and then flail your limbs around like a puppet trying to bat a fly away. Simple.

LWTUA is deceptively fast if you listen to it again. Faster than most hip-hop and house music, actually.

i think love will tear us apart is their worst song and very poor generally but i like atmosphere -- they were better when they were metal

can i assume that jim carroll is garbage?

No, "Love Will Tear Us Apart" is a great great great song getting a miserable performance ("miserable" may or may not be derogatory).

Once, a reviewer of Stars Vomit Coffee Shop said that it kicked Jim Carroll's butt.

I should explore their catalogue a bit more thoroughly than a couple of half-hearted listens to Unknown Pleasures (all I actually own by them), I suspect, but have not ftb 'Why DERE GOD IN YR HEAVEN ABOVE put myself through more JD when there is plenty of good pop out there I know nothing about'? Why, there's that Jim Carroll fella listed right here, I have never heard of...

Incidentally, which is the one with the refrain "Dance, dance, dance to the radio"...?

Oh yes, that's a jolly song. Still not entirely my thing, but good.

Never got into 'Unknown pleasures' though its cover is a fave.

the 'substance' compilation is great and so is 'closer'. Many of their tracks are improved by their rougher versions which you can get on one of the CDs of the 'heart and soul' boxset with some nice goodies that don't have a proper studio version. Can't remember which exact disc as I borrowed the boxset years ago from the record library.
