I made good on my promise to make a CD-R for Lex, who had only heard Pet Shop Boys compilations (but loved them). Here's some of the best other stuff. The PSB are a band with a broad base of good songs so someone else might well make an entirely different compilation than I (plus I've shied away from 12" mixes, remixes and so on - an essential part of PSBism and you could easily get a CD-R out of that). My adoration of the Actually era is obvious here, I think!

The compilation is roughly chronological, except the last two tracks.

1. Two Divided By Zero
2. Later Tonight
3. Hit Music
4. Shopping
5. It Couldn't Happen Here
6. I Want A Dog
7. One More Chance
8. The Sound Of The Atom Splitting
9. Only The Wind
10. It Must Be Obvious
11. Hey Headmaster
12. Shameless
13. Dreaming Of The Queen
14. One In A Million
15. The Truck Driver And His Mate
16. The Ghost Of Myself
17. Kings Cross
18. Your Funny Uncle

The Lex should claim this CD next time I'm in the pub with him.

I know nothing past The Sound Of The Atom Splitting (apart from the 2 at the end). Hey Headmaster sounds like the greatest song the Smiths never recorded.

Mixes like this are always intriguing. PSB remain a band that, to me, seem more interesting than they ever actually prove to be. After reading freakytigger's famous PSB piece, I listened through most of the singles. I can only genuinely say that I like a handful ("It's A Sin," "New York City Boy" and some others). But I remain wholly unimpressed: PSB seem very much a band that can be/are appreciated critically, but seem lacking at a visceral level.

Ooh, awesome! I've never even heard OF some of those songs. Thanks!

I was listening to PopArt last night and I am seriously going to rearrange it in the order of Discography, plus various post-Discography stuff on the end.

Great CD! Tho if I were the Lex, I'd get my hands on "Bet She's Not Your Girlfriend" ASAP; also "In The Night", "Some Speculation", & probably "One Of The Crowd" to hear C.Lowe deadpanning "Dressing individually doesn't impress me / I think that it's pathetic"(!)

I listen to Alternative almost as much as Discography, I think.
