And NOW, the end is near. We were rating some of these songs only LAST WEEK on Stevem's monthly pop polls, so apologies for the necessary duplication. The long heatwave of June/July 2006 - how long ago it seems eh?

Now 63 was won by Gorillaz, notching up their second poll winner with "Dirty Harry" on the frankly apalling score of 55% tickies - this would have put it in 8th place on the first Now poll. Make of that what you will.

[Poll #789802]

TH-TH-THAT'S ALL FOLKS!

i vote for P&J also -- maybe my single vote ever for DAVE Q'S BRAZEN HUSSIES will become a mighty torrent of all-time winningness

you might still know the songs

(tho' in its early years, wasn't P&J dominated by hoary ol' canonical rock?)

There may well be a macro poll with all the 64 winning tracks in.

Out of interest, apart from NOW!1 has there been any other changes in winner since the returning officer (i.e. Tom) "called" the original result?

I'm a bit of a geek so a great big spreadsheet would be ace as we could see things like the Now with the highest and lowest average score, biggest winners, most zero votes, that kind of thing.

And a Macro poll would be cool too - although with 64 tracks that would work perfectly as a knock-out competition (a la popfites)

Gosh, even that sounds a bit much.

I would favour simply splitting the winners into two groups (1-32 and 33-64) and then doing a "tick no more than one third" for each, as with the single-artist canon polls.

Followed by a grand final between the winner of each group.

I'd rather they all were done together, if possible, and marked in the same way as any other now!poll: I think group stages or splitting would inevitably end up skewing the results.

Mmm, but I'm not sure the same people were present for every now poll - I think context affects what one picks, and seeing all the 'poptimist consensus' choices together would probably create a new set of results. Maybe if you upgraded the 'any good at all' to 'really good'? Or used the 'tick no more than a third' system?
