And NOW, the end is near. We were rating some of these songs only LAST WEEK on Stevem's monthly pop polls, so apologies for the necessary duplication. The long heatwave of June/July 2006 - how long ago it seems eh?
Now 63 was won by Gorillaz, notching up their second poll winner with "Dirty Harry" on the frankly apalling score of 55% tickies - this would have put it in 8th place on the first Now poll. Make of that what you will.

Date: 2006-08-10 12:47 pm (UTC)There may well be a macro poll with all the 64 winning tracks in.
I like Frank K's idea of doing the Pazz and Jopp singles cos it's ahem interrogating a different thing i.e. how critical acclaim a) changes b) fares over time.

Re: P&J
Date: 2006-08-10 01:04 pm (UTC)Xgau's P&J website has been BLOCKED by my work filter. If someone could email me a list of the singles polls from 1979 on (say, top 30-40 if poss), that would be grebt.

Date: 2006-08-10 12:58 pm (UTC)Out of interest, apart from NOW!1 has there been any other changes in winner since the returning officer (i.e. Tom) "called" the original result?
Re: Next Steps
Date: 2006-08-10 01:12 pm (UTC)And a Macro poll would be cool too - although with 64 tracks that would work perfectly as a knock-out competition (a la popfites)
Re: Next Steps
Date: 2006-08-10 01:15 pm (UTC)Speaking of popfites I need to put new ones up tomorrow!
Re: Next Steps
Date: 2006-08-10 01:28 pm (UTC)I would favour simply splitting the winners into two groups (1-32 and 33-64) and then doing a "tick no more than one third" for each, as with the single-artist canon polls.
Followed by a grand final between the winner of each group.
