Dere God, this poll nearly KILLED me I can tell you. You get thirty seven ticks to denote your Cliff love! Shadows/Drifters will be saved for another time...
Ah yes, but is there anything in the code preventing one from selecting ALL of them, or is it just poor etiquette. I wouldn't of course. I can barely select more than about 5.
I've only ticked about 16 of these. As a percentage that's quite poor but compared to other artists it's quite astounding to have 16 good songs under your belt. Even if one is the same song with extra shouting by 80s comedians on it.
I haven't seen a Bruce Welch one anywhere on LJ in the time I've been here. Actually, you're the first Shadows fan I've met. I like it when they sing best because they all sound like dustmen.
This is my most unique icon, combining my love of cliff with my love of James May from Top Gear.
Would have been a much better Christmas number one than than the ones the years either side of it. Despite the jesus-lovin' lyrics it's a great song. Really nice simple melodies, great contrast between Van & Cliff's vocal styles, and a lovely hummed ending.
It is the worst thing Van Morrison ever did. It is the worst thing Cliff Richard ever did. And there's a hell of a lot of competition in both those categories.
In an irrelevant linkage stylee, the Drifters made one of my favourite Xmas records ever - their version of White Christmas, with Clyde McPhatter coming in halfway through with his "I-I-I-I'm dreaming! Of a whiiiiiite Christmas!" which is sung in a much sillier way than I can render in text.
"Travelling Light" from 59 is rly rly good - and apparently not well known by Poptimists. It got to number 1 and all! It's a really nice late night campfire choon.
But I'm sure there's loads I haven't ticked that I should have.
Must buy this (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0000073C5/026-0597449-3783622?v=glance&n=229816&s=music&v=glance) sometime. Still in print after nearly 30 years! It's also got one of my all-time favourite covers (as in: the sleeve art).
