Some fresher, some older

I was going to start this with the video to Keri Hilson's new single -- the not-so-much-great-as-aggressively-likable Knock You Down with Ne-Yo and K-West -- but natch by this point the only upload left is the official one, which may or may not be viewable in yr location. (It is, either way, as endearing as the song itself is, ie WELL PLENTY.)

Instead, something a little older for a starter:

Mr Scruff videos are always worth the price of admission; this one, for last year's excellent Music Takes Me Up, features singing fruit!

Hopefully you all know who RedOne is by now. If not, listen up cos he's a very important man! His real name is Nadir Khayat and he's a Moroccan-Swede who has been working as a writer/producer for about 10 years now. His first hit in Sweden was Darin's Step Up, a song which was clearly so much before it's time that people just weren't ready for it, as it never caught on outside of Sweden. He continued working with Darin, but he didn't really have any success other than with Darin, until about a year ago when he started collaborating with Akon and other artists on the Konvict label, such as Kat De Luna and... Lady GaGa! I personally think that Just Dance is his very best work, and that is why it has begun a massive RedOne craze. Every new artist has a RedOne song on their album, from R&B girls like Pixie and Esmee Denters to boybands like V Factory and Menudo. He's also working with major artists such as Enrique and Ciara, whose brilliant new single reminds me a lot of Breathing Your Love by Darin and Kat De Luna, one of my favourite songs of last year.

Anyway, the main point of this post was to share with you the new single by US R&B girlband Jada, which was released to iTunes last week. The verses are just OK but the chorus is brilliantly catchy. I think it's another of RedOne's masterpieces:

There's also another RedOne song that's becoming a hit in Europe: Flipsyde's When it was Good. I think this is another great song, and a million times better than Flipsyde's bizarre previous hit, Happy Birthday, which sampled t.A.T.u. Again the chorus really stands out, but I enjoy the song as a whole too.
