NOES yr eyes do not deceive you it is SEVEN new entries - except two of them aren't "new", just forgotten from previous polls, and also is that Fray song really new? Who can even tell?

[Poll #1350130]

BUBBLING UP: My Chemical Romance's version of "Desolation Row" and Saint Etienne's "Method Of Modern Love" are nestling outside the 40. New Mum MIA is back in the chart with Paper Planes. Miley is creeping up w/Fly On The Wall but may yet end up in the clutches of Anatol_Merklich.

I saw Bolt yesterday, and thought it was pretty ace. It also had two great country tinged songs, one by Jenny Lewis and this one by Cyrus and Travolta. Just thought I'd share it with the poptimists! (sorry not a proper video!)

And in them is not much at all. No, the reason the Yet Another Year In Pop polls are so lean is not that the majority of chart entries peak below #40. I was actually wondering whether I should wait for February's batch as well before posting, but since I have far too much nothing else to do anyway, here goes. (The upside is a higher probability of finding everything on youtube!)

[Poll #1350407]

The continuing chart ossification is rather striking when we look at the numbers. Last year (a record low for entries, as discussed before), 61 tracks entered the Top 75 in the first eight weeks. This year, the number is...41. Eep.

(PS could a mod create a "yayips" tag btw?)
