14 out of 41 tracks in for the Pop Open so far. At the weekend I reached a momentous (but sensible) decision viz. rather than run the groups in A-B-C-D-E-F-G-H order we'll go with whatever fills up first. Less stress! Currently this is looking like Group C - Sex.

(The only group with no submissions yet is G - "Injustice", which I sheepishly say doesn't exactly surprise me...)

I also have all four entries for the League Of Pop final (thankyou) and will put them up tonight, for voting in a day or two's time.

"Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Californication, branded 'unlistenable' by studio experts"

(insert obvious joke in comments)

More seriously, is this degree of compression something you notice when listening to new CDs? I had noticed that you need to set the volume control at a much lower level than you do with older CDs. But, rather naively, I assumed modern 'remastering' tended to broaden the dynamic range rather than narrow it.

Maybe it is only rock records that are mastered in the way this article complains about.

Right, so as you know, we've had a bit of an unfortunate time with the Union Tavern over the last few months, what with noise restrictions, early finishes etcetc, so we've found ourselves a new venue.

on FRIDAY 29th JUNE we will be holding poptimism at what is our eighth venue* and it is:

The Cross Kings
126 York Way
N1 0AX

me and [livejournal.com profile] barnet_ape went and had a look on friday and they seem to tick all of our boxes, viz:

ale
late licence (2am)
decks already there
free to hire

as with all these things, first one is a trial run, so PLEASE can everyone come along and have fun :)

clearly therre will be more pestering over the next 4 weeks ;)

*anyone? including pre-history we've DJed at Latrinos and the Cellar in Oxford as "sussed", Parker Place and The Chapel as "Club FT" and The Polar Bear, The Slaughtered Lamb and Union Tavern as Poptimism, so now you know
