The verdict from [livejournal.com profile] alexmacpherson!

(I still need a good few Week 6 tracks! Will try and send out reminders tonight)

"Overall I'm super-pleased with the CD: the opening double whammy in particular put a very wide grin on my face when I first listened to it, and it's not often I ever grin during the freezing cold walk across London Fields to catch my bus in the morning. The good definitely outweighs the bad, though I must say I was hoping that more people would take advantage of my famed lack of knowledge about The Past, eg more in the vein of the big disco number."

It's nearly Easter! As most of our [livejournal.com profile] poptimists will be supping fine beverages at the Union Tavern tomorrow, the Good Friday Canon has been shifted forward to Maundy Thursday Canon. And who better to feature than everyone's favourite Cafflick* boys, U2. What a rubbish name for a band! It hasn't stopped Bono and the boys being really rather successful though, 39 hits = 13 ticks for you lot to dish out...

*NB This may be untrue but whatevs I needed a tenuous link.

Pop Premiership results now updated with names etc.

Here are the scores at the end of week 5. As you can see, the Pop Premiership is severely close.

Tomorrow sees the (possibly quieter than expected) return of the Freaky Trigger Pop Music Focus Group at Poptimism. If you don't know the format, the Stylus Singles Jukebox borrowed it, and we borrowed it in turn from Radio On (or what I thought Radio On was like from reading about it). It involves marking various records out of ten.

The FTPMFG is combined this time with the FT Pop Attitudes survey, this being because I got given a demo of top data analysis package SPSS at the conference I went to the other week, and I'd like to play around with it.

If you're not going to be at Poptimism, you can still take part. Please email the leagueofpop@gmail.com address and say "I want to take part!". Put "Focus Group" in the subject so I can separate it from actual LoP entries.

Only do this if:

1. You are definitely not coming to Poptimism.
2. You will be able to get me the results by, say, Noon BST on Saturday.
3. You have a computer which can read Word documents (I'm sure most can)

I will only send you the word document and the list of tracks - not the tracks themselves, but you can always look up ones you don't know on YouTube.

For full scientific rigour, consume between 2 and 5 pints of cheap lager before undertaking your judgement.
