Last week everyone's favourite Russian faux-lesbians Tatu won their battle with Bouncey & the 'Babes to claim best number one of 2003, with a whopping 46 ticks. Poor old Snedders fared as badly as his follow-up single with only 2 votes of confidence, though looking at the text box some might say Gary Jules was the greater hate figure of the year (blatantly because you all had a tenner on 'Proper Crimbo' to hit the Xmas top spot instead). Now we come to the year where SmallKat first discovered the the magical world of the pop charts - 1988!

Oooo baby, do you know what that's worth? )

This Thursday doubtless many of you will be at the return of Poptimism. As shall I be. As should all good men and women of LONDON.

But what will you be doing next Thursday, eh?

Wouldn't it be great if there was another night on where you could hear fantastic pop music and drink and dance with random lovely people from off the innurnet?

Somewhere where you might be given a FREE CD OF BANGING TUNES if you were one of the first 30 or so people to turn up?

Well, guess what...

DO DIRT returns on Thursday 14th September at the Ditch Bar, 145 Shoreditch High Street, 9pm-3am, £3 entry.

More details and pretty pictures under the cut... )

What are the best places to get accurate lyrics online...that won't crash my PC? Sing365 isn't bad, but doesn't have many more 'obscure' records on. Songmeanings.net has these, and bonus comedy interpretations of records (Good Advices is a particular delight) but it's not entirely accurate.

This post was brought to you by spending the last twenty minutes 'fruit'lessly searching for the lyrics to Snow In Sun by Scritti Politti.

GOOD GOD it is the Mercury tonight, I had completely forgotten. Which means it's also time for the Lex 20p Indie Prize, when THE LEX rewards the best in indie with a shiny twenty pence piece. Last years' winners were Tompaulin.

Please use this secret poll to indicate which top INDIE ACT from the last 12 months the Lex should be rewarding for their efforts towards the indie cause. The shortlist will be announced later today (i.e. you'd better vote quickly) and the actual winner will be announced - AND A TRACK PLAYED - at Poptimism on Thursday night.

POLL CLOSED - SHORTLIST ANNOUNCED

Thanks to all voters. Apologies to voters whose nominations were not used in the final 10.
