The Historiography of Pop Part 6 aka The Sweet Sixteen

Sixteen songs remain, eight will go through to the quarter-final polls.

This poll will be open till Wednesday morning. What I'd like for the next round is for the winning eight songs to get 50 words each from an advocate (i.e one of YOU LOT) saying why it should be the overall WINNAR. So if you fancy doing this, let me know.

Round 3 )

LET BATTLE BEGIN!

Back to emo

It seems that [livejournal.com profile] freakytigger isn't the only one getting in a tizzy as to what all this emo nonsense is about. Popjustice newsletter points us here:

Unsurprisingly the Mail has the "better" moral panic headline...

edit for our overseas viewers, the young lady in the picture on the mail story is a character in Coronation Street, the UK's longest running soap opera, who went goth about 9 months ago, having been sent to a posh school by her pushy mother. she is totally not emo.

Pet Shop Extra

I made good on my promise to make a CD-R for Lex, who had only heard Pet Shop Boys compilations (but loved them). Here's some of the best other stuff. The PSB are a band with a broad base of good songs so someone else might well make an entirely different compilation than I (plus I've shied away from 12" mixes, remixes and so on - an essential part of PSBism and you could easily get a CD-R out of that). My adoration of the Actually era is obvious here, I think!

The compilation is roughly chronological, except the last two tracks.

The Lex should claim this CD next time I'm in the pub with him.
