Happy birthday Poptimists! Details of celebrations TBA...

Time for a front-page poll. The usual routine: first ten replies go up on the front page, then the poll vanishes.

HOORAY! It's [livejournal.com profile] poptimists first birthday drinks!

HOORAY! Top indie band Shimura Curves are playing Upstairs At The Garage tonight!

The qn is, can these two Hooray!s peacefully co-exist, i.e. are enough people planning on going to see the Muries that it would be worth having the drinks in Islington, or should we go somewhere less Northern and fans of the Shimmies can pop in and then move on?

I have chosen NOT to express this dilemma in poll form, but if you were planning on coming out and having a poptimist drink tonight then let me know in the comments box where you'd like it and I'll make a decision after lunch.

(Also I've realised I know zero about pubs in that bit of Islington.)

Right, nobody actually said "I won't come if it's near Highbury and Islington", so here we have it:

The Bailey, on Holloway Road. See some of you there later, I hope.

I'd like to put a link on freakytrigger.co.uk to the Poptimism World Cup results page. the page includes links to all participants' LiveJournals though, so if anybody would rather not have their LJ linked to from freakytrigger.co.uk let me know in comments or by e-mail and I'll remove the according link(s). Thanks.

Welcome to the first of our occasional special guest polls - in this case [livejournal.com profile] awesomewells was caught not in possession of a paid account, and wanted to canvas the views of the assembled poptimists on the subject of ROCK.

But how to define rock? He naturally chose The Best Rock Album In The World...Ever, which surely by Trades Description science collects together only the finest examples of ROCK, which will be submitted to Any Good At All science.

How rock are poptimists? LET'S FIND OUT!

THE DAY OF ROCKONING )

NB this album came out in 1994 which is why it does not have LORDI et al. on it.
