HOORAY! It's [livejournal.com profile] poptimists first birthday drinks!

HOORAY! Top indie band Shimura Curves are playing Upstairs At The Garage tonight!

The qn is, can these two Hooray!s peacefully co-exist, i.e. are enough people planning on going to see the Muries that it would be worth having the drinks in Islington, or should we go somewhere less Northern and fans of the Shimmies can pop in and then move on?

I have chosen NOT to express this dilemma in poll form, but if you were planning on coming out and having a poptimist drink tonight then let me know in the comments box where you'd like it and I'll make a decision after lunch.

(Also I've realised I know zero about pubs in that bit of Islington.)

CALL THEM BY THEIR NAME!

I am aware of their work.

Would prefer somewhere like Mabel's Tavern tho. Or even Old Red Lion pub in Angel.

I don't know if I can make either, I appear to have quadruple-booked myself tonight to go with quintuple-booking myself tomorrow night. Hopefully, though.

I haven't mentioned either of those in my singles column! as far as I know they don't have singles out. both are art-pop or art-rock anyway, not indie.

WE ALREADY SETTLED THIS

Those of you with some way of contacting Anna Curve should maybe ask her, it is very much her manor.

I won't be there, I'll be back on The Oul' Sod every weekend that doesn't have a Poptimism in it for the next month.

i get the feeling that down some back street round there there MUST be some cracking pubs, they are always going on about that area in the Full Pint...

there's always C0CK of course.

the canonbury http://www.fancyapint.com/main_site/thepubs/pub376.html is nice, if a slight walk from h&i

The Compton Arms is the backstreet boozer of choice in the Highbury Corner area, as everyone knows. At least, everyone who's asked me. It's one of those village-pubs-in-London numbers, but it's better than that makes it sound.

The Compton Arms is very small though, isn't it?

I would prefer:

a) something in the very near vicinity of H&I station
b) NOT THE BIG DOG'S COCK.

My suggestion is the Hope and Anchor:

hope and anchor?

I thought I might swing by for a quick pint if that's ok? I'm very much around Islington way, just name the pub.

To Poptimists attending one of these events for the first time, welcome to the brave new world of pre-pub fannydangle.

I also support a pub near H&I, as that is very convenient for me heading home (and it's one tube stop from King's Cross, so not exactly way out of town), but as I'm only about 50% likely to attend, this should be weighted accordingly when numbers are crunched.
