I've decided to move the Pop World Cup matches to Monday, with updates during the week and results on Friday. This seems a more sensible way of doing things. This means you have an extra couple of days to vote in Portugal/Ivory Coast (and also might mean I can get a better copy of Fonzie up tonight).

So the Poptimists Calendar now runs:

Monday - Pop World Cup
Tuesday - NOW Poll
Wednesday - Wednesday Canon (it's like the Friday Canon! But on a Wednesday!)
Thursday - NOW Poll (or a Shine poll if Starry fancies it)
Friday - Pop World Cup Results!!
Saturday/Sunday - Tumbleweeds

I have plenty of ideas for other 'features' obv. but I'll save them for when the PWC ends.

Also - MP3s! What do you reckon to MP3s on Poptimists? Do you think there should be more? Or are you botherd? Do you ever download them? What would you like to hear more of? ect ect.

BECAUSE YOU DEMANDED IT! (sort of)

Ivory Coast 1 Portugal 1 (full time: extra time to be played)

Portugal's young side will be ruing letting their first-half lead slip as they face a gruelling two days thirty minutes of extra time in their Pop World Cup clash with Ivory Coast. The young, direct side came racing out of the traps and had the ball in the net in the first five minutes, leaving a complacent Ivory Coast team reeling. It could easily have been two straight afterwards, but with the Ivory Coast manager screaming from the touchline a defender hacked the ball off the goal-line and the African side gradually steadied themselves, playing keep-ball and looking to tire the energetic Portugese out. With only one goal in it a comeback was always possible and after 80 minutes a defensive mix-up let the Ivory Coast striker through to equalise. Portugal have looked the better side for long periods of this tie but they will need to find reserves of energy to kill the tie off: the Ivory Coast have given themselves a lifeline but are they hungry enough to take it?

Now on an Wednesday, hence its new name of the "Wednesday Canon", and kicking off not with Madonna (tho see poll for more on this) but with pop darlings Girls Aloud. They've had 12 hits. You get 4 picks. Let's see who WINS.

Gurlpoll )

That's really not a bad foundation for a greatest hits, bulked out with choice album tracks anyway...
